Hey, what's up? I think I remember you!
Yeah this pic was pretty much using the Paintbrush set on "Airbrush Pen Opacity Flow" used throughout. You need a pen tablet for it to work right though.

I started with a black canvas.
On a new layer, I did a blueline sketch.
On another new layer, I layed out colors that I picked up right off of an actual contra screenshot.
Then on another new layer, I used the eye dropper tool (shortcut is you hold down alt) and grab a color, draw a bit, grab a color, draw a bit, repeat. Like if you're drawing the pants, you draw a bit of the pants, but if you draw too much, then you grab a bit of the black behind the leg and draw over the leg, repeat. Ya know?
Then I keep making 1 new layer and adding stuff bit by bit.
Each layer is "normal", except the last layer where I use a "screen" layer to do the bright areas.

Thanks, glad you like it. Contra really was one of the best side-scrolling shooters ever.
Yeah Arnold and Stallone never teamed up in their prime, eh? They be together (somewhat) in "The Expendables", have you heard of that movie?

Yeah I use Adobe Photoshop CS2 and my comp is a homemade brew, P4 3.2HT, 1gb ram, 2 80 gig HDs, Wacom tablet ptz-430. But stick with a Mac for art, it's much better.

Reminds me of some Contra players who would move their real body way too much while they played (especially in the arcades). They would also control the Contra guys like spazzed out maniacs and die in like 15 seconds, haha!

Thanks for the fav! Yeah my goal for drawing this pic was totally to appeal to fans like you. I love retro arcade games and I plan to do a Gauntlet pic, maybe a Quartet pic, Golden Axe, Double Dragon, etc. If you have a fav retro arcade game, lemme know!

Hey no problem! I remember growing up and playing Contra and Super Mario 2 & 3 on the NES. It's broken now tho so....i can't play it anymore. But i believe i kept the games.
Retro huh? Hmm...How bout Galaga or...Paper Boy? You could also do like the old-school Legend of Zelda. I can't come up with very many ideas right now.

PAPER BOY! Hehe I loved that game, though I always messed up the accelerate and brake thing so I'd always fall into the water...

I've never played Zelda though I love the character designs. I will keep those both in mind. Thanks!

Yeah I finished the nintendo one. The arcade one has the same waterfall the arcade. Yeah a lot of alien rips. Super Contra too has a lot of alien rips.

I had fun referencing the plasma for the spread gun. It was also fun making them crack on impact, something that I thought of while trying to make the pic more interesting.
