Poor Trashmaid, at least she's so durable. Panel 3 really shows that it comes out of nowhere.

Okay this is a question that have bothered me for a while. She is a Mermaid or is she a Siren?

She's not wearing old Greek clothes so probably not a Siren.

Neither is she wearing only seashells. Or less. Sirens are sirens, mermaids are mermaids. TM is a precious garbage pile of wonder.
I wouldn't count out there being a siren in her ancestry, though. Her dad is half manatee.

well to be fair I have never really been able to tell a Siren and a mermaid apart, perhaps thou could enlighten me on the difference.

There's not as much detail about Sirens as there are about mermaids. I admit I should at least look up Ulysses and the Odyssey first, where sirens are most prominently featured. Sirens are usually thought of as more primal then mermaids. Sirens are temptresses, mermaids are benign isolationists. Of course, sirens are temptresses meant to crash the ship through song by luring sailors to steer close, mermaids are the dolphins that sailors would see out at sea and never get close to. Sirens want to watch you drown, mermaids are half a tuna sandwich.

Well I used to tell my nieces that, that there were mermaids in the tuna. But honestly I shouldn't have told them about the trolls in the woods they didn't dare go in there after that.
