I think iit wasn't random at all. People paired them up since "Tweek vs. Craig". So much in fact that Trey and Matt reacted to that and made the episode "Tweek x Craig" as response.
The huge fanbase of that ship was the reason they actually ended up together.

Right now, Creek is my #2 couple in the show. Initially I thought nothing of them, but after seeing Put It Down I kind of like their dynamic.

Stan and Wendy (IDK if they are back together, but Fractured But Whole says they are. Either way at least they still care about one another).
As for PC Principal and Strong Woman I'm not sure how I feel about that one, I guess they compliment each other and that's good, but otherwise I don't know. I think I need to see more of it before I truly decide.
But I'll take those two (along with Tweek and Craig) over Heidi and Cartman (they're definitely my least favorite couple).

Indeed it is, I'm honestly astonish with that part.
I did feel bad for Heidi. Cause people made a connection that they were partners to take care of an egg in the previous season, then slowly...Heidi is even Cartman than the original. XD
