This very much reminds me of some of the work of Chuck Close. Of course, his doesn't have infinite detail...

Haha, I didn't know about Chuck Close until I googled his name. Then I remembered having seen some of his works at the Met. The "smooth dot" pattern is similar indeed... but the whole point of his works is to have a global figurative image, isn't it ?
I was very impressed by "Mark"... [link] the painting is so big and the guy so ugly, it's kind of frightening.
