I'm getting Avatar: The Last Airbender vibes from this. If I've read the official data right he's NOT Dalish right? For some reason I thought he was/would be.

And you're right, he is NOT Dalish. Just a wandering apostate elf who stuides magic/The Fade on his own. Yeah, I thought he would be too but I'm rather glad he's not.
It makes him a much more interesting character in my opinion c:

Elf!Inquisitor is Dalish though, by default. I take issue with that since I sympathize more with City Elves since they are trying to live the humans rather than running and hiding from the Humans trying to rebuild what they destroyed.

Yeah, same :/ I mean, I can understand both philosophies. I do respect what the Dalish are doing and I like their attitude about preserving their past.
However, I do wish we could play as a city elf. BUT, I'm pretty sure the Dalish are going to play a rather large part in the overall story so I think playing as a Dalish elf (**IDK POSSIBLE SPOILER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT WHO YOU MIGHT BE/WHAT MAY HAPPEN AT THE BEGINNING OF THE GAME. IT'S JUST SPECULATION, BUT SOME PEOPLE DON'T LIKE HEARING/KNOWING ABOUT THAT STUFF** possibly a Keeper or a First since we're supposedly at a diplomatic meeting at the start of the game?) so I think it'd be interesting to see that play out as a PC Dalish elf

I didn't mind since the Dalish origin played a larger role than the City Elf (who was barely referenced at all) in DAII's story (what little there was). I suppose that and being a Keeper or a First would be interesting but I disagree with the Dalish mindset as a whole: Don't look forward, look back. Don't adapt, deny and ignore. Cultures grow stronger by moving with the times while retaining a measure of their individual quirks and nuisances. That's why Communism fell in Russia. The Elves should be trying to overcome human oppression and grow strong as culture on their own in a new direction. But maybe that's just me.

Yeah, I understand that. There's definitely a lot of work to be done if they ever hope to really progress as a culture/people, but I definitely understand their hatred of the humans and their wishing to return to their glory days. However, like you said, that isn't going to happen if they keep trying to repeat the mistakes already made by those before them. OOOH now I'm excited to see if we can, in any way, help to change the course of the Dalish's future if your Inquisitor is Dalish.
