Description Please read the description for more information!

While I'm working on more Crash and Spyro models, I thought you all would like to take a look at what I used to do back in middle and high school. I used to like to play around with Game Maker and make my own little games and demos. This really helped me out with my understanding of modeling as it involves similar logic sometimes. This one is stylized like the Game Boy Advance Crash Bandicoot games, and you can try it out for yourself!

You can download the demo and the source code here:
mega.nz/#!y9JRFAAK!n5EdR4Lx3Mh…

This download does contain an executable (the playable demo itself).
You don't need Game Maker to play the demo! I've compiled it into a playable .exe file, so you can play around with it.
The source code is designed for use in Game Maker 8.1 but can be transferred forward to Game Maker Studio. (I apologize in advance for the lack of comments in the code.)
The game itself can be played on most versions of Windows.

In this demo, there are three modes to see: 1P Test, 2P Test, and 4P Test. Access each stage from the starting screen with either the Q, W, or E keys.
You can control the characters using the arrow keys and the Z, X, and C keys.
In 1P Test, you can play as one of nine character types in a basic test stage. To change characters, use the number keys 1-9. To see the full controls, just press the F1 key anytime during gameplay.
2P Test and 4P Test are not actually multiplayer. Instead, they test the camera memory limitations. However, you can still play around with the infinitely-spawning crates in 2P Test.
You can quit the demo anytime by pressing the ESC key.

You will notice a few bugs and some work-in-progress graphics during the game. This was never meant to be a whole game, so that's to be expected. Also, I can't help you with any programming questions or anything like that as I don't really work with Game Maker anymore and most of my time is spent working with models. (Besides, I'm not a pro or anything!)

Thank you and enjoy!

No problem! I've actually found a version I had that is a little further along than this one, I just need to make sure it works first.

It tends to on certain versions of Windows. I'm using Windows 10, but I know most Game Maker games crash constantly on Windows 8/8.1.
Ideally, the source code I provided needs to be ported to Game Maker Studio, but that's not something I could do for this.

Ooooh, this sounds exciting!

Back in my day, I used to play both Crash Bandicoot XS (The Huge Adventure in America; mine was XS) and N-Tranced on my GBA SP. ...Too bad it's broken now.

I thought it might be interesting to mix things up a bit while I'm busy with the models. I have many more demos based on other games I could share, so let me know if you'd like to see more sometime.

I still own my copy of Crash XS and two old GBAs that still work by some miracle! This game is based on the gameplay of the GBA games, so hopefully it feels familiar.

Sure thing.

Maybe a nostalgia trip won't be too bad.
