Description

One and Two are the last of their kind; get on their bad side and you might say that’s a good thing. Yet they amaze everyone who sees them for the first time: why? Because they are the very last Mokele Mbembe, the dinosaurs of the Congo’s Lake Tele. Found first by Travis Wolfe of Cryptos Island and his wife Rose Blackwood-Wolfe; Mokele Mbembe was unknown to all but the local tribes. Hoping to study the elusive creatures, Travis and Rose set up a home in the jungle near Lake Tele with the help of the pygmy Mosalito, only for the expedition to end tragically when two of the animals attacked, tearing off Travis Wolfe’s leg and killing Rose.

Travis Wolfe would become obsessed with eventually relocating and preserving the species to prevent their extinction at the hands of Rose’s father Noah Blackwood. His efforts eventually paid off, with unexpected help from his daughter Grace Wolfe (formerly O’Hara as she was raised by her aunt and uncle) and her cousin Marty O’Hara. Grace and Marty managed to locate and rescue two eggs from the nest of the deceased female Mokele that killed Grace’s mother and helped along with Wolfe’s research crew and their school friend Luther to hatch them, all the while struggling to keep them from Noah Blackwood and his cronies Butch McCall and Yvonne.

Personality-wise, One and Two have two distinct modes: screaming and starving and sleeping and farting. The reason for this is because despite their appearance, One and Two are not sauropods, but strange quadropedal theropods as evidenced by their diet of meat and their serrated, bladelike teeth. Their high metabolism causes them to eat and digest food very quickly and fuels rapid growth. It also causes them to pass copious amounts of gas and leave huge piles of dung, much to everyone’s chagrin when the time comes to clean their pen. They also view Grace and Marty’s friend Luther Smythe as their mother, as they imprinted on him immediately after hatching, a fact that allowed Grace and Marty to rescue Luther, Travis Wolfe and the other members of the Cryptos research crew from Noah Blackwood’s Brazilian cloning bunker.

My concept sketch of the two dinosaurs from Roland Smith's "Cryptid Hunters" Series. I tried getting them as close to matching the descriptions as possible. i did add a few features of my own. Being carnivores, i gave them blunt, almost bear-like claws and the classic theropod head, which is based slightly off that of Australovenator. Now, if you ask which is which, all i can say is that One is larger than Two. I cannot remember anymore if one is in the foreground or the background. The books also as far as i recall, do not reveal their genders, but I am inclined to think they are brother and sister based on what we know of actual dinosaurs and birds.

No one's quite sure other than that they're dinosaurs. I personally think they're theropods, but no one knows in the story.

Probably a really basal sauropodomorph.

One problem with that; those did not survive past the triassic.

Well, non-avian dinosaurs didn't survive past the Cretaceous.

Also, theropod wrists are too specialized to support weight. I'd suggest maybe they're really derived compsognathids, but again with the wrist thing.

Or perhaps they're of a kind not yet known from the fossil record.

Weren't they actually sauropods and the attack only came because the people were too close to the nest?

nope. they're carnivores. you learn more about them in "Tentacles", "Chupacabra" and "Mutation".

Hey, maybe you could draw the Kronosaurus imperator monster from the novel Kronos Rising! As far as I know, you would be the first person to ever make a piece of fan art for it!
