The spikes look wicked and those osteoderms. Literal walking behemoth that can tank multiple bites before being taken down by the wounds from said bites. All in all, very intimidating like its ancestors.

Definitely wouldn't want to be skewered to death by those thagomizers. It'd be horrible if you do. Awesome creature, saber!

That's armor. Titanosaur armor is shaped like disks.

I guess you've never seen titanosaur osteoderms then?

How is that even slightly relevant?

I ask because I was curious if you had seen the shape of titanosaur osteoderms in museums or books. They're round with a large ridge running down the middle.

So they look like an eye, then LOL

They do dot. More like a giant pizza with a raised ridge.

wowΒ a dinosaur that can give birth to live young?Β that's so extraordinary.

well, it evolved that feature so that populations of such huge animals wouldn't overwhelm their environment. Gorgoraptors also give live birth, but to many more young.Β

Live birth is actually impossible for archosaurs, since they have eggs with hard, calcium-rich shells. The embryo needs the calcium in the shell in order to develop, and that means true live birth without an eggshell can't evolve. What you couldΒ have is some sort of brood pouch where the egg is kept until it hatches. Rattlesnakes and other members of the viper family do this; they lay eggs, but the eggs are retained inside the mother's body until it is time for them to hatch.Β

That's essentially what happens with Mongo Grongos, but I did not explain it in detail.

I like this version better than the first one, it's a lot les spiky than the other version.

I liked the older version more, to be honest. Don't get me wrong this is amazing. Are those spots or osteoderms?

Saberrex In reply to TarbosaurusBatar [2014-06-19 22:41:08 +0000 UTC]
osteoderms. it needs thick armor to deter predators like that beastly Vastatotyrannus, who shares a symbiotic bond with two very large dromaeosaurs that also hunt this sauropod.

You've created a very interesting alternate world.

thanks. and there's more still to come. small tyrannosaurs and raptors that display like birds of paradise, pig-sized ceratopsians like porcupines⦠and plenty of marine reptiles and pterosaurs to boot.

I'll look foreward to all of them.
