Description
Snow fell down in large fat flakes around the city, blanketing everything and hushing the world. Dark eyes gazed out the window, watching people move to and fro, splotches of colour shown between the dark winter jackets and the white snow. Mostly red scarves or hats, drawing attention for brief moments, before passing by the window. The cafe itself was warm, the chatter of the surrounding people making it easier to relax. Richard greatly needed the chance to relax, his nerves leaving him on edge.A flash of blue stood out from the winter scene, a bright blue scarf weaving between people on the streets. The owner of the scarf ducked into the cafe, looking around curiously. Richard stood up, smiling brightly as Colton approached him. Richard raised a hand, intending to start this off with a handshake, when Colton simply hugged him. “It’s so cold outside.” He said, hiding his face against Richard’s chest.
Richard was surprised at first, by how close Colton was and so quickly at that. He found it somewhat endearing though, and he wrapped his arms around Colton gently. “I can order you some coffee, that will warm you up a little.” Richard said softly, smiling when Colton looked up at him. Richard took note of the redness that striped over Colton’s nose and cheeks, which accented his ice blue eyes. For a brief moment, he didn’t realize that Colton had stated talking, lost in the blue gaze.
“-ly, thank you.” Richard heard, finally tuning into Colton’s words. He smiled a bit in response, and drew back a bit, helping Colton remove the heavy winter jacket. They both settled at the table Richard had been seated at, Richard waving the waitress over.
After a few minutes and some idle small talk, they both had hot cups of coffee to fight away the chill of winter. Richard looked down into the depths of his coffee, at a loss for conversation. Nerves settled in a bit, and he worries he would ruin this date like he had with a few other past attempts at dating people. Colton, however, seemed to have just the thing to break Richard’s cycle of bad luck. “What animal did you want to be when you were younger?” He asked before sipping his coffee, blue eyes peering up over the edge of the mug. Richard looked up, startled by the question.
“Pardon me?” He asked not sure if he had heard that right.
“What animal did you want to be, when you were a kid. All kids wanted to be an animal at some point, right? I wanted to be a pig.” Colton said, smiling brightly at Richard. Richard blinked, before slowly smiling back.
“I wanted to be a snake.” Richard said, tracing a finger along the side of his mug. “Always thought they were neat, and no one ever wanted to mess with a snake.” He said, smiling a bit.
“Ah, bit of a philosopher were you? I just wanted to be a pig because they were cute.” Colton said, grinning. Richard chuckled softly, and from that point on, they didn’t lack conversation at all, the two of them losing themselves in each other. Their relationship forming as steadily as the snow fell outside.
