Meaning: Underworld Thief

Being the youngest known member of the raptor family, this dromaeosaur lived in the same place and time with Tyrannosaurus rex and Triceratops in the late Cretaceous period. With its fossils found in the Hell Creek Formation, in Montana, Acheroraptor is known for its long-snouted skull and unique dagger-like ridged teeth and measured 2m (6 ft) long. Its habitat was in the form of subtropical, swampy lowlands. It was an extremely close relative of Velociraptor from Mongolia, but was also an aggressive competitor of juvenile Dakotaraptors. Being both hunter and scavenger, Acheroraptor was opportunistic.
