Still on the rocky hill of the woodland territory of the white-tailed deer in Cabela's Deer Country, we see a third groundhog standing on fours and keeping watch. Considered as the most solitary of the marmot species, groundhogs live in aggregations, with their social organization varying across populations, and do not form stable, long-term pair-bonds, and are limited to copulation, during mating season male-female interactions. Groundhogs, however, are extremely intelligent animals forming complex social networks and are able to understand social behavior, form kinship with their young, understand and communicate threats through whistling (which gives them one of their nicknames, 'whistle pig'), and work cooperatively to solve tasks such as burrowing.
