Description

Still in the desert side of Mount Cabela, and in the same prairie dog town, three more prairie dogs are going about their business, two at one hole and the third at another, just much further away from the two. However, they have to be careful, keep their eyes open, and stick together (and their burrows), since there is a threat behind them, just hiding in a small bush, in the form of a rattlesnake. The snake seems posed to strike. Will these prairie dogs notice the snake in time and alarm the rest to underground while scurrying for their lives, or will the rattlesnake claim a life (while gaining a meal)?

Aside from rattlesnakes, which will usually target the young (or pups, as they're called), prairie dogs face a variety of predators, which includes the golden eagle, hawks, swift foxes, badgers, coyotes, and the very rare (and endangered) black-footed ferret (which heavily depends on them for its survival). However, they are not without defense tactics. In fact, prairie dogs have their own anti-predator alarm system.  With their dichromatic color vision, prairie dogs can detect predators from a great distance; they then alert others of the threat, using a special, high-pitched call. Some experts assert that prairie dogs use a sophisticated system of vocal communication to describe specific predators.

Ground squirrels, including prairie dogs, are just part of the rattlesnake's diet. Rattlesnakes also (and usually) prey upon mice, rats, rabbits, small birds, and other small animals. These snakes lie in wait for their prey, or hunt for it in holes. When the prey comes close, the snake bites and lets its venom do the work. This snake is called rattlesnake for the rattle that's located at the end of its tail, which makes a loud rattling noise when vibrated that scares off predators and/or warns anything or anyone passing by.
