I recently adopted a dragon. She's such a beautiful design that I had to make a 3D pen model of her. I thought it might be quite interesting to do a few uploads of the process, so I'm going to put them up a few stages at a time. Here are the first four.

Photo 1, top left. Print out the design and add any extra detail, like top view profile. (Usually I sketch the design but in this case the hard work had already been done for me)

Photo 2, top right. Outline the profile and start to build the shape. (I make the head seperately incase it doesn't go right. It's who they are, it needs to be right! )

Photo 3, bottom left. Lifted it from the board, both sides built up.

Photo 4, bottom right. Time to tidy up the detail. Head sculpted, started smoothing the body.

Please note that I am not claiming that this is the best, proper or only way to make a model like this. It's just the way that I do it. If you're looking at this planning to do a 3D pen model of your own, then use whatever method you feel comfortable with - there's plenty of "how to" tutorials out there. The most important thing is that you enjoy making your model. (oh, and don't burn yourself. That's pretty important too )
