I have to admit I wanted to do a critique for this photo since I saw it for the first time. I always admired your work, but this photo specially gives me a emotion I can't even explain completely. She's strong!not because she shows that she doesn't have hair or she passed her sickness, she's strong in this photo because she shows sincerely that even if she's afraid she is opening the door to life again! she's strong because inside she's saying "I'm alive and I'm living strong and confident" and it's admirable!! excellent work I have to say! Amazing!

i am not a professional art critiquing person but I must tell you that this is a well thought out picture having your friend remove the wig with its symbolic shedding a false image and showing the world the real beauty inside. i think shooting in black and white was a good choice as that color may have been over the top,and actually a distraction. this b/w also adds to the drama that it looks like your trying to go for. the only spot i see that looks a little washed out is on her shoulder where the sun was a bit to strong. overall I think this image could easily find its way to a photo gallery to be shown to the public.

so, this is my first official critique here on dA. and maybe I am not that professional like you and all this, but here are my thougths about this, nevertheless. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/>

I really really was so impressed as I saw this picture at first sight. It is just one of the most stunning artworks I have ever seen in my whole life. there is a story, strong emotions, fantastic posing and composition.
I love her pose so much, this shows us how strong she is. maybe this will give also some hope and strength to some of us, if they are healthy or not.
b/w tones also suits soso well here. contrasts and details are just amazing.and even if I usually prefer landscape format , upright is a very good choise here (:
And you used the light again in such a great way.e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="30" height="30" alt="" title="Sun"/>
the sun is shining, as long as the world goes on no matter what happens to us. it just goes on e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/>
and she is beautiful, indeed e.deviantart.net/emoticons/l/l… " width="26" height="17" alt="" title="Love"/> even without hair. most of woman without it would look some kind of ugly, I think (including myself e.deviantart.net/emoticons/a/a… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title="Aww"/>)

so, for me, this is a perfect photography. technically and emotion-even. all I can say, that I truely love it <3

I hope for your friend that everything will be much better in the future. I wish her just the best from the bottom of my heart. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h… " width="15" height="13" alt="" title="Heart"/>

ah, congrats for the DD, btw! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/l/l… " width="26" height="17" alt="" title="Love"/> so well deserved.
THIS is art, this is history and this is human.
should be more great stuff like this here e.deviantart.net/emoticons/n/n… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title="Nod"/>

ps: I wrote in english,so that everyone is able to read this e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Wink)"/>
alles liebe! fΓΌr euch beide e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h… " width="15" height="13" alt="" title="Heart"/>

first of all; i dont text this because ur on of my best friends but i really gotta say something to this image;
this one really took my breath away, it is so deep and u really can feel her "pain" in here and how she deal with her destiny. I opened this picture on my computer and i really needed to stare at this one about 5 minutes because it really took my breathe away. the make up is also a good choice and well done (dont forget to name the awesome bracelets) at this point haha. This image just shows how talented you are. anna is amazing.

I have seen many kinds of bravery in my line of work; silent, outspoken, forbidden, hushed and a couple more. The model in this photograph struck me as the kind of person with the best kind of bravery, in my opinion, confidence, self-confidence. You can see it in her expression, you can sense it in the action she's taking right in the moment of the shot.
It's very interesting that you chose black and white for this photograph, the emotion just emanates without the need of color whatsoever. The bit of light that hits directly on her is necessary to show what needs to be shown.
She's taking off the hair that's not hers', so to speak. She's showing us another side of beauty, she's definitely gorgeous and uniquely portrays the fact that every person makes and has their own beauty traits.
Perhaps, I personally can't really critique this piece the way you want to, not having the condition this person has but I do recognize bravery, confidence and beauty when I see it. Even with her eyes closed, we can take a peep at her true, clear and beautiful intentions.
Great Job.

My mother had Alopecia Areata while I was growing up. She wore wigs for several years. Fortunately it eventually grew back and I believe she told me most cases it's not permanent. I'm glad your friend is confident enough for this. I admire her truly but I still hope someday you will be able to photograph her with a full head of hair and a smile. My heart and my deep respect goes out to her. ^.^

You truly captured her beauty in this photo. I read a book about this disease in a book called because of Anya. people like this truly are strong and brave. I believe people this strong shoud be rewarded. She really is beautiful inside and out. (or at least it seems like that to me) i really wish i could meet her in person. I really wish i was as brave as her. I know I can never be. If i had lost all my hair i would have made my self sick with embarrassment. I admire you with all my heart.

Alright! Props to your friend for doing this! I have aa too and within the past year, I've lost all my head hair. I would really appreciate it if everyone would not assume that hair loss is cancer! I'm 22 years old an I have older women coming up to me, explaining how hard it was for them and that I will "make it". I then have to tell these amazing women, that alopecia areata affects my body hair and my psyche. That's it!

Now don't get me wrong, I could never be as brave as to be a "proud baldie", at least not yet - so please! Please everyone don't judge by appearances alone!!!! Alopecia looks like side-effects of radiation and chemo, but its not!

Alopecia ia an auto immune disease. Where the body attacks its own hair follicles. Essentaly meaning our hair is an "enemy". The fall out is individual and unique to each person as is the age of development. I've had it since I was 3 - and only recently became completely bald.

Sorry I'm ranting. Just please remember that going bald is an amazing thing for a woman to do because hair is so sensitive to us, but please don't compare to the troubles of someone suffering from cancer.

But I completely agree with the daily deviation award! " a photo of strength through the purposeful sharing of vulnerability!" Couldn't be anymore right!

Thank your friend, anna, for me - she's amazing and I hope one day I could have the courage to go out without a scarf or wig!

Sorry I ranted....

It gets easier. And it is a bit nerve racking to go out bald for the first time. I completely understand the cancer bit though. It's such a sad state and I feel horrible for anyone with it. I barely have the strength to go out with aa, let alone cancer.
