Description
A series of five 15"x24" sepia ink paintings I made for an art course in University.
We were told to choose a couple of toys and tell a story with them, so NATURALLY I chose penguins, Iron Fist (Marvel Comics) , and Godzilla (from the 1998 movie) . We were allowed to paint in either ink, or gouache. I had never used either before. Little did I know, it would quickly become one of my new favourite mediums!
I put a bit of a 'step by step' on my Tumblr if you're interested in my ink painting process. It's super fun if you enjoy making a huge mess with your artwork. I enjoyed this project because all I did was throw ink all over the place.

I just want to say right now the Impact rating I gave you has nothing to with the uppercut Iron Fist gave to Godzilla but the entire piece overall haha
the piece is definitely original I have to say, I have never seen Iron Fist go toe to toe with Godzilla. It gets even more original when you take into account that isn't your normal art style.
the technique is displayed very well, I am very aware of what's going on in each panel and Iron fist hugging some penguins earns huge points
Yeah I don't have anything bad to say about this picture if you were wondering, but I could offer up that it noticeable to me that this is the first time you have dabbled in this art style; but even though it is obvious you used this sepia ink style for the first time I can also see you are skilled enough that you adapted to this new painting style pretty easily.

Damn that's cool. Captured the figures splendidly and told a solid 1-pager story. Penguins are the new Hostess fruit pies.

lol don't worry, that's what I thought when I heard we could use 'gouache', too.
It's apparently very similar to acrylic paint, but with more of a chalky consistency.
It dries with a very 'flat' finish, and I guess traditionally, the paintings done with gouache use very solid colours, rather than blending and mixing for the desired shades/hues.

How I saw it. The ever-friendly Godzilla adopts four baby penguins. Then some thug named Iron Fist comes along and tries to take the penguins away. Godzilla dies trying to defend the penguins. The penguins are forcibly taken away by Iron Fist. A story of great tragedy and loss.

Glad to see the 1998 American Godzilla lost. As it should. What a travesty.
I have to admit that I know NOTHING of Iron Fist. This lack of comic book knowledge is affecting me now that my son is quizzing me. Iron Fist is in the latest Lego Spiderman set, and my son asked me, "Who's Iron Fist?" And I had to reply, "I have no idea." At least I now know he can defeat third-rate American rip-offs of Japanese icons.

I used to watch the animated series though - the movie scared me as a kid.
To be honest, I didn't know anything about Iron Fist until we bought Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom (fighting game for the xbox). He's a bit obscure, but his action figure was the only one I could find that was really pose-able and versatile.

I think the best part about it was the experimental factor. I had no idea what I was doing, and I actually managed to figure it out in time for a decent mark.
My fav panel has got to be the last one, though. hehe Possibly going to frame that sucker.

lol! Yeah, all the baby penguins are attached together. Iron fist just had to kinda hold his arms there and I set them on top.
