Description Note: These creatures come from an old abandoned spec-evo project. Map of the world , for more context.

On top we have a blatant reference to the Shadow and Bone books, because, well it lives on a blatant reference to the Shadow and Bone books. The volcra, an eagle-sized descendant of the mouse-eared bat, belongs to a group which have freed their back limbs from the flying membrane, which allows them to function like the talons of a bird of prey. This species is the largest, feeding on large herbivorous terrestrial bats, despite being only slightly larger than the biggest flying fox (The largest kind of bat). To do so, they are social, living in clans with a loose dominance system, similarly to dholes. They prefer open woodlands, with lots of space to fly, but also abundant perches to rest, as bat flight isn't as energetically efficient as a bird's.

On the bottom we have the foldtrotter. Their ancestors actually escaped the fold shortly after their introduction; they became frugivorous and developed larger eyes. When they came back to their original home, instead of losing their eyes as many of the native bats, they enlarged them to better see in the scarce light. Over time, they became arboreal, similarly to monkeys, using all their fingers to grasp the branches, until they came to the ground, lost their wing membrane, and became faster runners, bearing their wight on four digits on each foot, unlike the native herbivores (which only have one). This is a large, solitary predator of the open plains, often chasing their prey to exhaustion. Their range overlaps with the volcra's in some places, and both species often compete for prey.
