I'm jumping so far ahead here, but basically, Rosaline (The swan) and Derrick (The wolf, both in their familiar forms) meet together at night so Derrick can learn about what it means to be a familiar. In turn, Derrick seeks motherly advice from her about his feelings towards Nicholas.Derrick is around 13 here. I imagine his wolf self to be in this kinda awkward teen looking stage.
