Tried to keep this one real simple and beginner friendly.

I did not want to go into too much detail. I added a slower animation without colour at the bottom. I know some of you learn visually. Like myself I look at real images, and footage to see how stuff works. Then spend hours making my own images and animations look believable.
You can also use my explosions tutorial as a reference here. Fireworks are basically pretty explosions.
Tips
Fireworks are not flat explosions -- they explode spherically ( Mostly ). This might seem obvious but it is easy to see it as a flat round explosion.
Don't just use single pixels -- mix in some other shapes
Create the explosion without colour first -- makes it easier, and faster to edit the animation
Complimentary colours work great -- for Fireworks of multiple colours.
Use different size explosions -- put them together to create a scene
