Description

The third and last attempt at [link]
This I did fairly recently. I tried it again after I was flipping through this book about watercolor techniques and I saw that some artists didn't even ink their backgrounds and decided to give it a go. The only things I inked prior to painting were Sharkie, the deck of her ship, and the ship in the dawn. I am very proud of the results of this one and feel more than satisfied. Originally I was so set on showing her crying with a cigarette in her hands, but I realized that just wouldn't be possible for this one because on the one hand, I could position her correctly on the deck watching the ship without making it anatomically incorrect, so I scraped showing her smoking and crying.
But I have to say, it wasn't a bad trade off because it makes it emotionally better, if I do say so myself.
The song inspiring this one was Katy Perry's "The One That Got Away", in particular this verse:

"In another life
I would be your girl
We keep all our promises
be us against the world
In another life
I would make you stay
So I don't have to say
you were the one that got away"

This one actually has way more emotional impact, and looks much more polished. I really like the handling of the shadows on Sharkie and the deck around her.
