Description
So very random.Have some cat hair in your tutorial too. XD
I forgot to say, but warm water is best. The hotter is is, the best to get the tea & coffee to mark the paper better. But not too hot, or you can't put your hands in to mess around. XD;
You can also use the tea bag without tearing it, but you can do more stuff with the leaves out of it. Try both and see what you like.
You can try other things than coffee and tea, of course, but those are really fun to play with and get quick results.
Once you've scanned, you can edit your texture, remove parts you dislike, change color and all sorts of things.
I didn't much cover the "how to use it in the art" part because that depends a lot on each person, (and this tutorial is about how to make the textures and not the use in the artwork itself), but putting a layer with texture over your drawing and playing with the effects (multiply, overlay, etc.) + lowering the texture layer opacity until it suits what you want tends to be an easy way to add a texture quickly.
Results with be different with each pic, so go ctrl+u and play also with the color of your texture to suit your pic better.
(Advice that works on SAI and Photoshop under PC, if you're using something else, uhm, do what you normally do to change color etc. XD; *lol* *isn't sure how to then* XD; )
The coffee etc. is great for giving stuff an "old paper" look too.

I'm sorry if it offends you
but the person who was making the texture in the above fic looked so much Sara Shirabuki that I was not surprised when she was smiling in the first and all violent I'll-tear-you-to-pieces-you-tea-bag. XD
I don't mean to offend! But that was hilarious And also this tutorial is a great help.Thank You!

Oops, I just had English fail, sorry. XD; Instead of succinct, maybe 'brief'? I meant to say I'd explained it briefly in the author description, although I think I didn't explain in detail enough, so it wasn't really clear? Hopefully it's more understandable in the comment here.

No, it was because I'm stupid I don't know how to put the texture file into a layer. 8D;;

Ah, you just open the texture file in the program you're using, and then copy paste it into a layer on top of your picture. You can also change the size/color/etc. too to make it fit your picture better. ^^

Ah, okay. Can you export and stuff?

Sagakure In reply to GalaxyFart [2012-04-18 21:06:28 +0000 UTC]
Export? ^^? I'm not sure what you mean? You open both files, then copy the texture and paste it in a layer over the other pic.
Then you save or do whatever as you please, in what is the way you usually do it with the program you use.

Nah, not stupid! ^^ There are things that are so weird and hard to figure out until you get used to them, and then it's so simple you wonder how it was so complicated before. XD
I'll make some more tutorials in the future, so hopefully they'll be helpful too.

You paste the texture onto a layer above your artwork, then set the layer mode to multiply or overlay etc., and play with the opacity and color until you get something you like. ^^/
It's explained in the artist description actually, but maybe it was too succinct?

You can do it in a ton of other ways, (taking pics of dirt outside and other interesting-looking rust etc. XD), but the tea or coffee in a pan method is the easiest/fastest way. ;D
Good luck~!

Uh?
Frying pans are awesome too, just how the roast pan after you get the roast out, and other various things.
But I prefer tea etc. because it's more fun and free to play with, and you get the paper grain too.

Owwwwiiiii O.O Be my sensei!
But is that able to do with like red color (Bloody effects nothing too cruel ya know)? Cause I'd reeeaaally liked to try with various colors and (MY) teas leave...Green..Stains... ;____;

Sagakure In reply to TSalad [2009-07-31 02:34:56 +0000 UTC]
Oh, that's no problem, the color doesn't matters. As I explained in the artist comment, once you've scanned it, hit ctrl+u (or go to the color edit thingie via whatever menu you have for that on the program you're using), and modify the color until you get red instead of green. That's what I do.
If you're not used to it that way and can't get quite the red you want from the start, you can make a copy of the new red layer and set the layer mode to multiply to make it darker, and so on.

Cutting it open gently with scissors, then picking up the wet tea leaves with your fingers is better than tearing it out, that was just for comical effect.
But yes, basically, you get the leaves out of the bag in whatever way you like. *lol*

ah umm, what sort of tea do you suggest using that produces the best results, and how long is a little while? i used jasmine tea leaves and earl grey tea leaves.. and i left it in for about fifteen minutes, but it didn't really produce any dramatic results like yours. XD;; sorry, just wondering.
