"The Sky Shines Gold"
This was meant to be for the 25th anniversary of one of my favorite game franchises of all time, The Legend of Zelda. It took me a little longer than I expected. I wanted to draw Link without all of his usual garb and weaponry -- sort of like after he's saved Hyrule and is taking a much deserved break. So, I dressed him in a simple tunic without a hat to accentuate his newfound freedom. For the setting, I placed Link in Hyrule Field from Twilight Princess. My favorite thing to do there was splash in the little ponds with Epona. I wanted to add a little ferocity to Link's eyes just like we see in his wolf form. I didn't use any references for his face to give myself a challenge. My brother helped me with his pose.
For Epona, I was greatly inspired by a kid's t-shirt I saw at a store.
Happy 25th Zelda

Don't worry, Epona's amazing! She's kind of cute; with that blank/happy stare that horses seem to give you. How did you manage to shade each strand of her mane individually?

Thank you! I used a combo of the smudge tool for volume and painting hair back on top for realism.

Gorgeous Katrina, simply gorgeous. I can't draw horses lol well I did my first one a week ago. To me this is so lovely and I think you did Epona great justice. Link looks so intense.

^^ I'm glad you like it! I had so many sketches of horses that just ended up in the trash before I was able to get the pose the way I wanted it and not have it look all wonky. I was walking past the children's clothing section and spotted a unicorn on a girl's t-shirt which helped me out with the foreshortening a bit.

I really like this, even though I can spot several things that are wrong in this picture. I'm really meticulous about that kind of thing so consider it a compliment that I like this too much to care!

Yeah, there are a lot of things amiss in the anatomical area. I try not to use refs in my artwork most of the time to give myself a challenge. I'm glad you enjoy the concept.

Horses are very hard to draw, I know from experience. This came out looking absolutely beautiful, though. I like the sunset lighting especially.
