Description A photoshop speed-paint of a coyote in the Rocky Mountains. I love coyotes so much. Such great little canines.

I really need to practice more backgrounds/landscapes.

I think it's sort of funny how so many people don't like coyotes, when I think they're fairly interesting. On the plus side, I don't think we need to worry much about coyotes going extinct any time soon, what with the whole compensatory mortality thing.

They are such amazing creatures. I'm a huge fan of species that adapt to humans as well, so they are on the top of my list for interesting species. Such gorgeous animals!

Apparently they were not present in New York State prior to European colonization, but after wolves were extirpated they moved in, and now they're pretty much everywhere. I've heard them in my backyard, and I live in suburban Albany county.

Yup! And as they tried to exterminate coyotes the populations simply exploded. Kill one coyote holding a territory and 4 more divide the old territory up. They are such great animals.

They're pretty interesting. I once ran a population model of coyotes that implied that their populations would only be stabilized if you had an 80% yearly harvest rate. I guess the only potential problem with that aspect of their biology is that people might see that and start thinking that all animals will breed more when some of them have been killed. For example, in Albany, there are problems with white-tailed deer overpopulation, and the Department of Environmental Conservation wants to cull some of them, and some of the people of Albany think that this will result in a population explosion. It's a bit of a pickle.

I love the way the coyote stands out from the somewhat hazed foreground/background, and the sky implies a great sense of chilling vastness

Also, coyotes are awesome

I love it!! I agree that the empty sky really captures the wide, cold feeling of the piece.

And of course, I have a huuuuuuuge gaping soft spot for coyotes. x3

What makes this picture great is the empty sky at the top.

Good work.

pfft, your backgrounds and landscapes are great, wat'chu talkin' 'bout?

And incidentally I can't do a thing with digital painting, so I am extra impressed.

I confess a little bit of envy of your speedpaint. Photoshop and I are not terribly good friends, I'm afraid.

I love coyotes! There's something endearing about them, even if they are notorious pests in this area.
