Description I've made a tutorial for how to make a Vocaloid headset. Feel free to use it. If there are any other tutorials that you'd like to see, let me know and I'll see what can do! <3

EDIT: I've decided to include Frequently Asked Questions in this description since I've gotten so many of the same questions. ^^ I'll add more questions as they come up. Hopefully this will help clear things up. If you ask a question that is in the FAQ's area, I'll be less likely to answer. Sorry. :<

SECOND EDIT: suggested putting a glow-in-the-dark paint on the yellow and blue foam to make it glow. I think it's a good idea and definitely worth a shot!

FAQ:

Q.: How are the ear pieces attached to the headband?
A.: I made a small indent into the ear pieces. Then, I put a heavy duty glue (like E-6000 or Liquid Fusion) into the indent and pressed the headband into it. I held it there until it held on its own (about 30 minutes); then, I let it fully cure, which took about 24 hours.

Q.: How did you make your bow?
A.: I now have a tutorial for that as well! : D [link]

Q.: How did you attach the bow to the headset?
A.: The headset and the bow are actually 100% separate. In all the official reference picture I had come across, the bow is actually slightly behind the headset, so I just bobby-pinned the bow in place behind the headset.

Q.: You made this tutorial for the twins' headsets. Can I use it for (insert other Vocaloid)? Or can you make a tutorial for (insert other Vocaloid)'s headset?
A.: I made this tutorial since I was already making the headset for Rin. While I'm sure you can use this tutorial as a basis for the other Vocaloids, I don't have any plans on making different tutorials for the different headsets.

Hope you enjoy!

I WILL use this! it's really clear! though i have on question: how do you get the mic in the headphone itself?

SailorAnime In reply to aardappel1 [2011-04-29 15:51:31 +0000 UTC]

You just poke the little bit of exposed wire through the headphone and bend the tip of the wire so that it won't fall out :>

Thank you for this.. I'm going to be cosplaying Len in a couple of months and I was freaking out about the headset. This helps things out. Just one thing, what kind of paint did you use to color it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SailorAnime In reply to Bean-Sprout [2011-04-10 02:18:27 +0000 UTC]

It's just some Americana acrylic paint. Most craft stores carry it :>

in step 12 you say "seal it"... wuzzat mean...?? ' x ';

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SailorAnime In reply to cowpi [2011-02-08 02:20:12 +0000 UTC]

You use an all-purpose sealer to coat the materials before you paint them. Sealant is usally a clear-white liquid that's used very similar to how you would use acrylic paint ^^

wow that's really helpful. they look great, way better then my crappy Miku ones T.T. i'm gonna use this but i have a question, you said to paint them when you're done.....paint with what? a finish?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SailorAnime In reply to toxic-pink-choco [2011-01-30 04:49:27 +0000 UTC]

Paint with acrylic paint So for Miku, you'd use black instead of white

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

toxic-pink-choco In reply to SailorAnime [2011-01-30 04:53:30 +0000 UTC]

oh ok so the entire thing in it's color? like the lights (in my case) red and the base black? i'm just trying to fully understand it lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SailorAnime In reply to toxic-pink-choco [2011-01-30 05:34:43 +0000 UTC]

The base would be black, yes, but the red lights would be what the yellow vinyl is on mine. Does that make sense? ^^

Aw, thank you, this will be useful for my Zatsune Miku's cosplay! And, let me say it, Rin suits you really well!
Just a question, if I may ask.. How did you glue the earphones onto the headband? Er, I mean, in the photo I can't see it very well, but the headband doesn't look like it's glued to the side of the earphone, but in another way ( maybe in the upper part..? )
lol, I can't explain myself, hope you can understand what I wanted to say x'D

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SailorAnime In reply to WhaTTina [2011-01-06 16:50:20 +0000 UTC]

You are correct! It is glued more onto the top of the ear pieces as opposed to the side, but that was mainly because the headband I found wouldn't have put the earpieces where they would have needed to be (i.e. over my ears). If you can find a headband long enough, gluing it on the sides would probably be easier and hold better. :>

Good luck on your Miku headphones, and thanks for the compliment on my Rin! ^///^
