I would start with 2-3 drops of each color and increase it from there if it's not as saturated as you would like.

My last question! ( I keep firing them at you) Is it possible to use another branch of ink than the FW ink? Sadly, my country doesn't sell that branch but does sell other branches of ink ^^~Β

I would assume it would work. I haven't tried it with other other brand though.

Is this dying method waterproof?
I'm cosplaying from the swimming anime, Free!, and my Rin wig is too light a red. Because I'll probably end up in a pool, I want a method thatΒ won't run...

SailorAnime In reply to Snow-Witch-Salem [2013-09-26 03:04:13 +0000 UTC]
I've never tried it, but I can't imagine that it's waterproof. Plus I would be worried about the ink reacting with the chlorine in the pool.

Well I'll give it a shot and just get a bucket of water from my local pool to drop my wig in to test

Would...would this work for dying part of a wig? Say the back half?
I need a wig for a Kai Hiwatari cosplay but the lady at the local costume shop said you can't dye wigs, that it only gets the surface.
Is that true, it doesn't look like it but I'd like to know before I follow her advice & get two wigs to butcher & sow back together into some kind of franken-wig.
π: 0 β©: 1
SailorAnime In reply to MasterOfTheSquirls [2013-04-13 04:29:42 +0000 UTC]
Sewing the two wigs together would probably be better since you would have more control over which parts were which color.
I believe the alcohol in the dye mixture helps it seep (at least somewhat) into the plastics that wigs tend to be made out of, though some wig fibers won't accept dyes at all.

MasterOfTheSquirls In reply to SailorAnime [2013-04-13 20:11:23 +0000 UTC]
I think I'll experiment with this one cheap wig I have and see how well making two-toned hair works, then I shall decide if I'll get one wig & dye the back or two wigs & turn them into a franken-wig.
Thanks for the advice.

Thanks (I have noticed a distinct lack of front/back franken-wig tutorials though, plenty of left/right ones though)

Excellent! Thank you! That is the kind of wig I'll need to be dyeing and I was a little hesitant because I heard they may not take dye as well. But I am much more confident. Thank you.

It is possibly that it will stain the clothes so I would be careful.

blackcat-kitten [2011-10-22 04:49:03 +0000 UTC]
Is it okay to use black fw ink for this? I have a navy blue wig but it needs to be black and the sharpie method wont work for dying, I haven't tried using the sharpie method to get black, its just what i've read online.

SailorAnime In reply to Cubie-Panda [2011-06-26 15:08:25 +0000 UTC]
You probably would. It would just take a lot of coats of ink ^^

Okay, I'm assuming that you can't do too much with a wig that's black to start off with, so if I was to dye a wig two colours (black and purple) what base colour wig do you think I should get? I was thinking of white but I'd prefer not to do thousands of coats for the black... and if I get a brown wig I'm worried it'll affect the purple to much... :/

GirlsDeadMonsterrr In reply to crablock [2012-05-24 19:41:18 +0000 UTC]
It seems obvious to me if u buy a wig in the shade of purple your looking for then you only need to dye one side black! No need to do both~ xD

Thank you for this! Hopefully I'll be able to try it out in the future.
Do you think it'd work for dyeing a silver wig entirely black?
