I think C17 is hiding something.
It's too strange.
His change has never been analized in the series.
And seeing him come back from nothing like an ally (after the character had been forgotten) it seems strange to me.
Why C17 decided to abandon his mission to kill Goku and he decided to make a family?
It is also strange to see both him and his sister fight in the power tournament as allies of Z warriors.
The androids have never fought with the Z warriors and the Androids have never given the impression of being reliable allies and never betraying them.
Even in the future of Trunks the Androids have killed all Z warriors. So I wonder: why should the androids of the present be different?
In my opinion, C17 and C18 are expecting the right opportunity to attack.
After the cell's defeat, the two Androids realized that Z warriors had become too strong for them and retired to develop a new plan.
But C17 has now become stronger than a super saiyan god super saiyan, so this is his moment.
Even when crilin was deleted, c17 and c18 were the first to criticize him.
This is my hypothesis. I hope so, because I want Toriyama to develop characters like c17 and c18.

According to Toriyama, 17/Lapis has 1 child and 2 adopted children. So this is plausible. However I'd imagine that the kid would be named after a precious stone/jewel, fitting with his family name

* All Namekians except Piccolo-Themed after slugs
* Goku's Saiyan family-Root vegetables
* Goku, Gohan and Goten-All originate from the Japanese transliteration of Sun Wukong-Son Goku. "han" comes from rice/dishes/food in general and "ten" comes from "sky" or afterlife, which is a clever reference to how Goku was dead when he was born

* Mr Satan's family-Named after Devil puns. Pan is less obvious, but its a reference to Pan the Satyr, who common depictions of the Devil are based off appearance-wise. Also, it refers to food like her dad Gohan
* Androids 17 and 18-Named after respectively Lapis Lazuli, a precious jewel
* The Buu saga villains-Named after magic sounding words. Bibidi Babidi Buu is a Cinderella refernece
* Krillin and Marron-Chesnut references
* Frieza family-Named after cold things
* Piccolo's family-Named after musical instruments
* Most of Frieza's men, and the Tuffles-Fruits
* Ginyu Force-Dairy products
* Cooler's men-Condiments and dressing
* Red Ribbon Army-Colors
* Turles' men-Types of nuts

* Taria-Vegeta's mom(comes from tarian, aka Vegetarian)
* Panty and Shorts-The first names of Bulma's parents
* Lucy and Lucius-Pan and Uub's children(yes, I ship them. They derive from Lucifer)
* Boss Taura-Chi-Chi's mom(comes from bos taurus, the scientific name for cow)
* Mara-The daughter of Future Videl and Future Trunks(as in the tempting serpent of Buddhist folklore)
* Babidi's species-Perraulteen(Charles Perrault wrote Cinderella)
* Isa-Frieza's grandma(since we know from Toriyama he was born "of King Cold alone", but not if his kind can only breed asexually)
* Lace and Agate-17 and 18's presumably deceased parents(another gem with two words composing its name)
* Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl-17/Lapis' children(Steven Universe reference ftw. Those characters are components of the same fusion, Alexandrite)
* Jasper-The name of Dr Gero's son, who he modeled Android 16 after(its a red gemstome, fitting the android theme naming and his red hair)
* Kabaj-Nappa's mom(aka Cabbage)
* Citrian-Zarbon's race(pomelos, which Zarbon is a translation of, are a citric fruit)
* Pungenta-Dodoria's planet(the durian is a smelly fruit)
* Prismus Gero-Dr Gero's first name(fancy variation of Prism, which refers to light and thus colors)
* Carnelion-An alternative name Dr Gero gave Android 19(another type of gemstone)
* Android 21 and 22-Names you could give Cell and his Cell Jrs, considering they do fall under the blanket term of android/artificial human
The-Devils-Corpse came up with good names for the Kais, based around non-alcoholic beverages
