Basic information (text in image)
Floaters are a humanoid type people most known for their distinct lack of a face and disembodied floating eyes. As a people they are typically observed to be blunt, aggressive and hyperactive in disposition with laconic tendencies. They are warrior people who developed from distinctive warring tribes and clans across vast and harsh lands on their home worlds, and it is the dramatic geography that played a factor in the development of their combative personalities. It is said that a ‘mild mannered’ floater is most likely a galactic traveler and not raised on the home worlds. Since Floaters lack a face, they rely on a lot of boisterous body movements and a highly phonetically expressive manner of speech. Floater people have a natural affinity to magic that comes with their peculiar eyes. These eyes as a standard are an adaptation to sight, but it has been observed that these eyes can perform various tasks from the simple ability to make objects float, to opening portals, shooting fire, possession, storage, etc. These abilities must be discovered through trial, practice and education, however. Those who are never taught how to enhance abilities may never access it purposefully. Most floaters opt to work with their hands and many obsess with machines.
(Physical notes)
Floater Genders are not limited. They do have a definite Male and Female, with a spectrum between them of others that can be both or freely switch between male or female to perform either purpose. In most cases, it is very difficult to tell one from the other, as the females can resemble males with the only difference being a slightly more curvy figure and some of them may have breasts. Males will be able to have more range in body colors and can have more vibrant markings. The difference is usually in disposition, with males typically being more flamboyant and females more illusive.
While they don’t all have markings, some floaters have spots or stripes from along their spine. Some may also have siamese type patches on limbs and head.
The forehead holds a melon that allows them to pick up echolocation and varying frequencies around them. Between the melon, their ears, and sensitive receptors on their feet, it is impossible to sneak up on one.
Instead of a nose, Floaters have a type of nostril behind their ears. This is purely for breathing purposes. It cannot smell, and it can be blocked by the ear. They can breath through their mouths, and speech does not hinder or alter respiration.
Floater mouths are big. Big teeth, big tongues, a lot of expression. They have a highly refined sense of taste, and will use spices on their bodies much like fragrances. Teeth can be any color from yellow, orange, white, black, red, green.
All Floaters have gas bladders on their backs, a large one across the shoulders, and two smaller ones mid to low back. These bladders are for body temperature regulation. Some cultures use them for posturing, painting or tattooing them for dramatic color. It is not unusual to fill them with narcotic gasses recreationally.
(The eyes)
Floater’s eyes are complex and the shape, style and ability can range and be determined by the personality of the individual. Some eye styles are more common in certain races than others, but there is not a standard in how they appear. Typical floaters can have 1 or 3 eyes, which they can alternate between. They can never have just 2, unless they are ‘artificial’ floaters that had 2 before being transformed. Especially complex eye designs are seen as rare and typically affiliated with individuals who have rather extreme mentalities or are especially powerful. It is also unusual for floaters to have more than 4 eyes, which can also be affiliated with mental or power ranges. Age can be a factor to eye quantity and shape. ‘God’ floaters are those with the ability to absorb other life forms, in which they can obtain additional eyes and abilities from the action. In this way, they can also turn non-floater creatures into a variation of floater based on themselves.
One of the most typical types of eye that can be found are free floating eyes. They can move in a wide range around the individual, can be varying sizes, colors, shapes and have the most range of abilities. Fixed eyes are common, but also seen in combination with free floating eyes. These eyes have a very small range of movement and can settle anywhere around the body. They can have varying sizes, colors, shapes and abilities, but more limited than free floating eyes. Mock eyes are typically found on artificial Floaters if seen in pairs. 3 is most common in natural Floaters. they are often pure white or some glowing color and can position anywhere on the head. They are fixed, but have a wide range of abilities. Floater eyes are fragile, and it is not uncommon for them to be damaged and blinded or removed. Eyes that are damaged will still appear when called upon, regardless of whether they can see or not. Some may still perform abilities but with less power. They cannot be damaged when ‘closed’.
(The Races)
Target Heads: Target heads originate from canyon and desert clans where there are very few resources. They are regarded as ‘feral’ by other races due to their often unstable and outragious personalities, but they often cannot be rivaled with their affinity to mechanics and odd machines. Their Halos are a type of deformed eye that does not appear until the individual reaches 10 years old. Their targets are a natural marking that differs between individuals.
Horn Heads: There are two types of horned floaters with distinct shapes and growth habits in the horns; Ram and steer type. They can have from 1-6 horns anywhere above the mouth with 2-4 being the most common. In horned culture size matters way to much! A very common race alongside standard race.
Smoke heads: Smoke heads are an endangered race that is strong willed and skilled in the art of war. The smoke can range in color, size and shape which brightens as they age. It is said Smokeheads have made a pact with Death.
Emperors: ‘Emperor’ Floaters are regarded as strange or alien by other races. Known to be especially self absorbed instead of aggressive, and are magically flamboyant and especially cowardly. Their heads can take a range of shapes that their eyes typically sit within.
