Description
Decided rather suddenly during a headache to do a quick sketchtest animation. Still working out the kinks and may add one more frame in the beginning.I made the mistake of choosing who before I remembered he had complicated face stripes. So when I do the final version those will be in there too.
Thoughts are encouraged. I can't always see awkward jumps or spots very easily so its nice when people pick those out.
EDIT: I changed the timing and positioning of the beginning. hopefully looks a little smoother.

Wow! I just now learned how to do better animating with Krita (found a youtube tutorial) and it just made it 100 times smoother, you could try it if you're not already using it

I'm always open to looking at things that help it along or refreshing myself with the tips and tricks of current applications that are useful for it. I used to animate a lot, all by traditional means. But I'm rather crusty at it now after not doing it for abut 20 years (And frankly a little lazy in my pencils).

If you're interested in improving further you can check out the tutorial here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=48pwrr…
Hope it helps ^w^ My attempt after watching tutorial:

Thank you! I'll check it out. Even if I'm not using Krita, some animation tips are fairly universal so I will find something out of it that helps. Right off the top two things that would help me most are a light table and two eyes XD. One of those is in my future.
Nice, very smooth!

First couple frames go fast little too quickly to really see what is going on. Otherwise really nice work, can't wait to see the finished animation! c:

I might go back in and slow down the first 3 frames or add in one more to give it a slight lag. the head turn at the very least is meant to be fast, but I agree that there isn't enough to focus on before that happens.
Thanks!

I love the emotion and the movement in this animation; I think it's an amazing sketch test! I love the lowering of his head into a snarl... * A* )

I like how it looks like he's taking a breath with an obvious inhale and exhale during the snarl. Its a nice detail! It's really smooth and I can imagine he's stomping around at the same time by the movement of his neck.
A couple of things I see that could use a bit of refining. 1) that head tilt at the very beginning is a little choppy from frame to frame, and might go smoother if it was leveled the same as the second frame its going into or a little closer to it so its not such an obvious move. 2) The tuft of fur on the neck during the snarling section where he's exhaling is bouncing up and down every other frame and doesn't move as smoothly as the rest of it, and kind of causing the whole thing to look a little rough. 3) This is just nitpicking, and I know its a sketchtest.. but the white spots that pop up around the edges and the color differences of the paper frame to frame are a tiny bit distracting to the animation.
All over really cool though. I wish I could do this kind of stuff :,) It'll be bomb to see him with all his little face markings if I remember Moondog right.

Thank you!
Yeah, That first frame I've been indifferent about. I may shift it around more to make it fit in more smoothly, but I also think it has to do with it being the very first frame. I hate to make the animation much longer, but it makes me want to insert a yawn at the beginning.
That's a good catch, not a spot I was really able to pick out myself. Thanks! I'll try to match up that hackle between the frames where its causing trouble.
Luckily those little smudges and borders will be cleared out when I get to the final. I'll probably post another pencil test before I finish everything which I will be sure are cleaner. This specific spread was cut from phone photos, so they're all very inconsistent from the lighting.
You remember Moondog right o-o actually doing them is not as much of murder as I thought, but getting them to align well is going to take a lot of little tweaks. I wish I had my light table, but I'm going from side to side visual comparison instead of overlay visual comparison, and man its painful.
