This was the second of my eight prints produced for Arlingtoncon back in October. This one was inspired by a snippet of a rather long RP involving Naruto and Gaara working together as modern assassins. Sort of a Weiss KreuB meets Kill Bill set up.
This reveal was actually a set up to a more looming past Gaara had in an effort to introduce both Temari and Kankuro into play.

"I need a shower..."

"Are you hinting to me now?" Naruto asked, leaping onto Gaara's bed. He inhaled deeply, the sheets heavy with the smell of his partner. Oh god...he was blushing. He really liked that smell.

"Don't get blood on my sheets," Gaara warned. It was the one place he did not tolerate gore - his bed. Ironic that he could sleep soundly knowing he killed for a living, yet hated even a smudge of blood to linger where he slept.

"Don't worry. I'm not gonna bleed on your sheets." He winced at the pain in his arm. "Hey, will you change this before you shower?"

"I have medicinal suplies in the bathroom."

Naruto nodded, pulling down the zipper, stripping himself of the coat. "Then lead on."

Gaara took his coat and threw it into an unsurprisngly empty hamper before leading towards the spacious bathroom. It had one those showers with no less than four nozzles, basically an open glass stall. Then there was the bathtub that could easily and comfortably seat what was left of Gaara's family. Everything was decorated in shades of marbled black and white with immaculate chrome finishes. Gaara ignored Naruto's gawking as he stripped off his bloodied shirt, letting it drop to the tiled floor as he went to a mirrored cabinet. His spine was decorated with strange tattoos that weren't quite blue and yet too light to call indigo, an almost chaotic swirling design lacing each vertebrea.

"Beautiful..." Naruto whispered, staring at the redhead's back and body, gaping freely. He didn't even realize his mouth was hanging open. The shapes seemed to move along his back, flowing with his flesh, making the blond long to reach out and try and memorize their pattern.

Gaara caught Naruto's stare seconds before turning around, holding a white first aid box in his hands. "Going to take off your shirt?"

As Gaara turned towards him, blue eyes tore away from the redhead, latching onto the floor. Dimly registering his words, the blond nodded, tugging off the damp, blood-mottled garment and tossing it onto the floor.

The actual design used in the pic was taken stroke for stroke from a manga shot of Shukaku, which was the general idea when I concieved of the tattoo.
I'm particularly proud of how this turned out, yet surprised that this was less successful than the Fruits Basket print.
