All right, let me start by saying that this is quite possibly my favourite piece of art on deviantart, it really is, I love the colours and the way you drew it, BRILLIANT! Okay, now for a more technical (and less fan-girl) review, the colours are very pure and provide a lot of contrast -something that one looks for with these characters- as well as a great definition of who's who (I've seen pieces where I can't tell the difference between L and Light). Secondly, you did a wonderful job of defining the personalities of the characters (without using the typical candy, Ryuk etc.) Now for a bit more fan-girling, I LOVE THAT L HAS NO SHIRT!! No seriously, I do think that it adds something to the piece, I don't know if this is just sex appeal, but whatever it is it is most certainly there. Another note, I find it wonderful that L is carrying the apple, it's very uncommon, and I think this just adds to the uniqueness of this art work, and I applaud you. Now finally I would like to touch up on the clothing and anatomy, first, the clothing and the detail in the clothing is spectacular, however Light's anatomy is a bit wonky, not by much, but something is there that just throws it off by a little bit. However, that should not worry you, it's really not that big of a deal, I just thought you should be aware, for future reference. Okay, that covers everything that I wanted to say (and squee) about. I hope you continue to make such fabulous art.

I love it.
I very much agree with the first critique in the way that you've made them as realistic as possible without detracting from the fact that they *are* anime char ... the exaggeration of folds in L's shirt is a fantastic example of this. More than necessary but still following a very natural pattern. This concept seems apart throughout the whole picture. In their wings, the angles of their feathers. In the shades of Light's abdomen as well
I also like how the light from the background bleeds shines through the cracks in the books, almost like the books itself is a mass of puzzle pieces. It's very eye-catching.
In general really, I actually very much like this picture. It was extremely well done.

The work done very nicely and with great accuracy. Very well matched colors ktoe attract the eye gaze, facial expression at high levels, perfectly reflects the nature of the form which gives the work depth because even though we do not focus all their attention on these faces, they blend into us over the head (at least in my case) .. Mina Kira says, "I am God, and it depends on me whether I die I want to be if you are still alive." The whole ideal. Work on and show that you can afford more. I congratulate the talent and hard work.

One word - wow! This piece is truly incredible. I can't get my eyes off all the immense details and brilliant, radiant colours. The semi-realism works perfectly with the characters. I'm in love with the way you draw clothing folds, by the way! It looks so realistic it could be a photo. I truly admire your skills! The colours really suit the characters and show their personalities, that is really well-done. And those wings... Absolutely beautiful! Now I just wish you could have Ryuk floating around somewhere in the background e.deviantart.net/emoticons/let… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Lick)"/>

I wish I could advise you on something to be improved, but I really cannot see anything wrong - it's so perfect!

Well, I really like this piece of art, of course it seems classic, though, maybe a bit the same perspective as lots of others have made.
It is like between good and evil, though I like that you have placed the Death Note in the middle, as they are fighting for it.
I like the way you make the characters, great job, though, I would like to say, that the red "dot" at Light's left (For the watchers) arm, seems a little too bright and eye-catching.
Also, Light's wing seems a little out of place, or is it just me.
I gotta hand it to you, your drawing style seems fantastic, and your concept with the apple really hands it to the series, the scythe is really well drawn, I must say, and it has a great difference from the original style, which gives it creativity.

I would say, that there are things that can be made better, though, it is a masterpiece, and I do surely enjoy it.
I hope you will look at this critique, since these are my trustful words.

Thank you for reading, and keep practicing to the perfect.

Cant't really give much of a truly honest critique because
I Love Death Note, but the shading, colors and art are so well done I can't think of anything negative to say except that I'm SO..........DAMN.........JEALOUS.......................................................................God, they're too hot.
Seriously, great job all around though!
The perfect picture to show to someone who hasn't seen or heard of Death Note (and doesn't care about substance over pretty boys) to get them to watch or read it. Can't come up with anything else to say so to reach the 100 word minimum I will do this: I LOVE L and LIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beautiful! It made me tear up when i thought of the ending of Death note! Such a pitiful ending really. L is the solemn lazy angel and Light is the fallen angel turned devil. Its truly amazing how you captured the complexity of there relationship. You've captured a very meaningful portrait. The colors are vibrant enough to not seem morbid but dark enough to cast a dark aura about the whole. ensemble. I love how L is holding an apple. A humorous gesture. I truly look forward to more of your very unique style.

A critique for you. Lovely Job~

>.> This is a super beautiful piece.. There's just one tiny little thing that I feel I should point out, simply because it's bugging me. Light's wing looks murky and transparent and lacks the amount of contrast that L's has. I don't know if this was done on purpose, but it comes off looking a little hurried..

I love the sort of balanced look that it gives off. And I know that this might be unnecessary for me to say, since others have said it as well, but I also love the realism with which the characters are drawn. I appreciate the meticulous detail and unlike a lot of fanart, it's refreshing and pleasing to the eye.

Wow you've really pulled off something no one else could've possibly thought of. You made L more defined as a character instead of making him all cutesy, naive, and just plain dumb sometimes. I absolutely love this piece, even Light is gorgeous as well. I also like the fact the the piece is very soft and yet it has a deep, harsh meaning. The light tones of red and blue make it very visual and appealing to the eye, plus it brings out the characters. The colors as a whole are absolutely beautiful. This is definitely how I would picture them as a realistic style. Keep up the awsome work I'll look forward to seeing more pieces like this!!

You have a very nice work of art here! I love that it is very realistic, much like a lot of your other art, as far as I can tell. I think you have a nice balance with their contrasts in color, with the blue and red. I'm a huge fan of Death Note and I love to look at a ton of fanart for it, but I don't think very many people can quite catch their sort of 'vibe', or 'theme', like you are able to. I hope you'll continue to make wonderful art like this piece in the future. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/>

I think this piece of art is truly amazing. A lot of people go for the classic look of them two, you know L with candy or something, etc. but you truly have made them shine in a way. I love how you drew them in a very realistic way, but still kept them very cartoon-ish. The lines are great, there is a lot of detail which is very good, and the colors blend and match perfectly. I love the art is very radiant, very eye-catching, and very unique. I love it!

Keep working hard, and improve your skill's gradually.

Not to be a bigger Grammar Nazi but you only fixed spelling mistakes, the grammar is still painful. let me take a crack at it:
"I loved the way you drew this piece, The outfits and poses are perfect! I also love the way you drew their bodies and clothes. Those along with the light effect are amazing, you also made the scene simple with elegance. The symbolic color hues on Light and L's sides of the piece were flawless as well, and the scythe? bad-ass. Though he kind of looks like Genesis from FF VII:Crisis Core... Great piece all in all."

This was a simply amazing piece. You've made me see Death Note (one of my favorite anime) in a completely new light (no pun intended). I've never seen these sides to Light and L, and your perspective of them is very original and captivating. The lighting against both characters was very accurate and powerful. Also, your attention to detail, especially in Light's scythe, was spot-on. Even the wall in the background seems real, and the texture looks like I can reach in the picture and touch it's rough, cracked surface.

I am thoroughly impressed and wish you the best of luck in the future.

First thing I thought when I saw this picture: I'm mind blown. The details on this picture are so sharp and every aspect of this picture stands out. I can see the variation between these two characters. Light, the bringer of destruction, and L, the bringer of Justice is evident in this picture. The storyline had started out as Light wanting to bring justice, and you definitely portrayed the real outcome of him obtaining the Death Note. The proportions, color, tools, and details are very eye appealing. I love how realistically you drew their bodies, especially Light's open chest. You went above and beyond given the provided medium. I'm not a Death Note fan, but you definitely made Death Note worth reading/watching.

This is a truly beautiful piece, but I feel as thought this pose and Idea is a bit overdone. Although you executioned it beautifully, I feel as though I've seen this picture many times before.
The shading is done very well. What I dislike, it the blue surrounding L's Left side. It looks out of place, as though he's glowing on that side. It is especially noticeable when you compare it to Light, who looks as though a red light is shining on him.
the background at first seems interesting, but after having a good long look at the piece, I grew to hate it. The white vortex surrounding the Death note is not only odd, but doesn't fit into the picture and frankly, ugly. A better effect would maybe have been to have a light shining out from the death note itself.
This piece is gorgeous in its details, and I can spend a lot of time roaming form the folds in the clothes, to the wings, and back up to the face, but, what bothers me the most, is the complete lack of this detail in the hands, parts of the scythe, and L's apple. They look as though they were added last minute in a haste, and were not blended and sophisticatedly as the rest of the piece. Especially on L's Left side.
Now, for what I love about this piece- as I said before- is the gorgeous detail. The folds in the clothes and the hair is what really gets me. I think they are done so realistically with great color choices that they draw me in. My favorite is Light's hair flowing. I feel as though it'd be feather soft to the touch.
Now to talk about the characters, I really like the way you posed them. I think Light's headstrong pose and tilted face fits his character perfectly, aswell as L's relaxed stance and blank face with a bit of intrigue. The main difference is Light draws you in more whereas L's expression makes you want to look away from him and see what he's peering at. Of course, after a minute or two, I did go back to L, but he was just not as eye catching as Light. L wearing the backpack confused me a little, but it is your artistic choice on what he wears.
And on a fangirl note, I loved Lights chest. LOVED IT. Not only is it hot, but well done!
Overall, I loved this piece, and the effort and time you put into it is obvious! Great job, and I hope to see more like it!
I didn't proofread this much, so I'm sorry for any mistakes!

Because a critique isnt about your own preferences, or else I would critique some perfectly good abstract artists and tell them that their work is shit.
The point of a critique is to analyze what the artist was going for, what they did, and what they could have done better to achieve the goal, not to say "well, I want it to look like this." and thats exactly what you did for almost the entire critique.

You're right. In a critique you shouldn't speak about your own preferences, you should tell the artist what could be better. What if all the critiques would be about each one's preferences?
It would be very confusing for the artist because everyone likes something else.

I don't have too much to add except for the fact that this is an absolute masterpiece.

Visually, your detail is very, very pleasing, as are Light and L's complimenting colors (red n' blue). I'm especially admiring of the wings and coloring style in their hair. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/>

Original? Not so much, as Reaper!Light is a commonly conceived view of him. However, providing each character with only one wing each, and having both of them guard the door to Hell, with the DeathNote representing Hell is a novel idea.

Technique is a major part of *sakimichan 's work, and is a hude part of the work here. Anatomically, your work is wonderful (and I have to admit, I've been hooked on Light's bare skin up until now. I'm sure many people can sympathize). I also must praise your use of foreshortening, as it's a challenging concept to draw correctly, and even harder to apply colors to keep the same point of view and not have the character look awkward in limb lengths. And shading, wow, I can't even describe how amazing it is. If I even tried, I'd probably shoot myself because it would be utter blasphemy, no matter how I do it.

This really is a wonderful and magnificent picture!

Vision: 4 and a half stars. Truly a marvelous perspective on the two's rivalry. But there's one thing I would probably do differently... Possibly make L wear an elaborate costume like Light? I know he always wears the same thing, but he could use a nice outfit similar to Light's too. X3 And it makes L seem a bit plain while everything else is very elaborate and vivid.

Originality: 4 stars. I really love how you had L and Light have one wing on opposite sides. To me, it gives the sense that they are equals; allies yet enemies. But this is a bit over-done, even though the whole conflict in the entire series is Light and L trying to out-smart each other.

Technique: 5 stars! Everything is flawless! From the shading, to the details, everything is flawless! Very lovely indeed. ^^ The two things that stand out to me are the lack of shine on the apple, and L's hands are a tad large. But those are only minor distractions. X3

Impact: 5 stars as well! The colors you used were really eye-catching! And the scythe is really unique! I've seen plenty of pictures with Light holding a scythe, but this one is by far my favorite. ^^

Very lovely job! You're extremely talented! I hope I helped, even just a little bit. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/a/a… " width="19" height="19" alt="" title="Sweating a little... - "/> I'm not all that great of an artist, but I do hope to help other artists grow and improve. ^^

Honestly, I do like that the red is at one site and the blue at another. also the fact that the death note seems ripped. but i miss a shine in the apple if you understand.
I also like the fact that you both gave them ONE wing at each side.

almost like they are two faces of one mind.

vision: i gave 5 and a halfh because it looks good.

originality: 4 and a halfh because thought alot of death note has light with one wing and a schyte but also at the good side never seen both of tehm like that or l with the apple.

impact: 5 full stars, simply says i acually do love this. it looks great togheter, colours mixing nicely and makes them seems different but at the same time the same. i also have to say, that the deathnote is in the middle makes it all better. without it it would look empty. Nicely done e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" />
