Well well well, here we go.
First off; minor anatomy problems. For example; I don't believe the muscles on Raito's torso, particulary those on the stomach, are entirely correct. You might want to double check that. Also, L's right hand looks a tad bigger than it should be. Other than that; nice use of the contrapposto, particulary because of the symmetry.
Second; props. I think the scythe, although fitting, and Raito's jacket are a bit over-the-top, but that's just my opinion and I won't be harsh about it. The apple, though, seems well placed although I think there sould be a blue gleam on it from the right, seeing as L is lit by the blue light, but the apple mysteriously isn't. e.deviantart.com/emoticons/n/n… " width="15" height="15" alt="
" title="Noes!" />
Third; composition. Good, good, the attention is nicely pulled to the characters, and, via the curve of the scythe, is nicely dragged to the Death Note. At least, so it seems. Somehow the view keeps lingering around the end of the scythe. I don't know why this is; it could be the DA watermark (for which I don't blame you: there are a lot of Death Note addicts who would claim this as their own if given the chance), but then I noticed that the light source that's illuminating the characters and the Note, is in fact not behind the Note, but a small distance beneath it. Because of this the view lingers there and does not settle on the Death Note. e.deviantart.com/emoticons/n/n… " width="15" height="15" alt="
" title="No, I disagree!" /> You could either lower the Death Note or alter the background to place the brightest spot right behind it to solve this. That being said, I like what you've done with the Death Note. It looks like it's crackling in a fire, but also as if it's very old. For some reason it reminds me of the Rosetta Stone. I believe that a solid black rectangle-shaped Death Note would work as good, perhaps better, but that's your descision.
Fourth: Colour. A bit too saturated for my taste, but that's my taste. I remember Death Note as being quite dark and gloomy and grey, so this is a bit un-Death Note-ish, in my opinion. Then again, desaturated colours would go weird with the ethereal nature of this piece. They're not exactly running around with one wing in the anime, so I guess liberties are to be taken. e.deviantart.com/emoticons/w/w… " width="15" height="15" alt="
" title="
(Wink)" /> The scribbling on the walls is a very nice touch, I like it. I'm guessing they are the Death Note's rules, correct?
Anyway; ratings time!
Vision: Good interpretation of the classic Death Note protagonist and antagonist. (Or the other way around?) Earns you 4 stars.
Originality: Wings and scythes and half-naked boys have been done before, many times. 2 stars.
Technique: Practically impeccable. Very well done and quite a lot of time must have been spend on it. 5 stars.
Impact: This piece assaults your senses with an arsenal of brilliant colours, simple but effective composition, and effective symmetry. 4 stars.e.deviantart.com/emoticons/w/w… " width="25" height="17" alt="
" title="Phew!" /> And there you have it. A WALL OF TEXT.

this is how the artist sees Death Note. i feel that no artist's work should be judged(my opinion). if this is how he wants to emphasize how he sees Death Note then it's perfect. this is how i would also look at it. of course they don't run around with one wing, but it's to make it symmetrical. the wings represent, if you will, that LIGHTO is a shinigami and L is an angel, hence the red gleam and blue gleam. the blue and red gleams coming off of L and LIGHTO are only supposed to be on one side of them. therefore, that is why the apple has no gleam. on another note, you commented about the scythe; on a cover of death note, LIGHTO is indeed holding a scythe. so LIGHTO having a scythe is indeed original to the story. and finally, there is nothing wrong with LIGHTO being half naked. technically, LIGHTO is not half naked, for he has a jacket on.

Personally I think Ekonk has made a lot of valid points, but was a little too harsh on certain aspects. I think Ekonk might be a bit of a perfectionist? like me, so I understand where he's coming from, but also, I agree with PutOn that it's the artist's envision, so there is no higher form of art technically. But also, I believe critiques are made to help the artist, so Ekonk was over critical in a good way I guess. He specifically said that according to his personal taste he did not agree with some things, so he didn't really tell the artist what to do. These are critiques, what we think about the piece, so they're just suggestions to BETTER the piece.
To finish this off, I'd like to point out to Ekonk that the apple would not have a blue glimmer on to the right side of it, because it is placed too far from the light source and closer to the viewer (as it looks like L is kind of like, handing the apple to us), I think though that it would have a tiny shiny edge onto the left, to indicate that the light behind it is actually radiating to it, since it's on the scythe but not the apple.
And with alll that... man. I should have written a critique myself

As said above, this is a stunning piece!
The lighting, the shade, the contrast everything is very well composed! The colours are subtle and neutral and nothing is outstanding over something else, which allows you to look at the picture as a whole. The wings are wonderfully done, as is the scythe and the DN cracking in the fire has an impact aswell, like it's torn between the two characters, Light and L.
There are only a couple of quips here, Lights hand where he's holding the scythe, doesn't look like he's properly holding it - it looks like it's hanging out of his hand (I'm not sure if this was the intention or not XD) Lights neck could also be a LITTLE bit thinner.
Other than that though, it's absolutely perfect!
- I gave vision 5 stars as this is a very imaginative piece!
- I gave originality 4 1/2 stars as DN isn't your creation, but you've taken a very original approach to this picture.
- I gave technique 5 stars as there are alot of skillful techniques in this picture - light, shade, colour, composition, poses etc.
- I gave impact 5 stars as that's what this picture does, it makes an impact, it makes you look at it.

This piece is absolutely stunning. Before I begin, let me say that I am simply AMAZED by this work of art,and could probably could never create something so gorgeous. The wings in particular are simply outstanding! The faces are perfect as well. That being said, the legs on L look just slightly off,not enough to really notice right away, but that's a difficult pose, which I myself am not so great at,so it's understandable. Also, the necks look a little short and thick, but that might be the angle. And I agree that the apple seems a little flat, without quite enough depth to appear round. The background is stunning however, and overall it's a WONDERFUL rendition of my favorite opponents from Death Note....=^_^=

I'm sure I don't have to say this but this piece is wonderfully done. What I love the most out of this piece would be their pants, I kid you not. The folds are where they should be and are nicely defined.
While this is gorgeous, there are a few things I would like to suggest.
Something that I noticed is that Light's body area looks rather soft compared to his face. It doesn't look like there aren't any dark shadows in his body like there are in the face. Maybe add some darker tones in there, it will also help define some of his muscle features a bit more.
One other thing with his skin is that it looks like his face and body have two different skin tones. His body has a little warmer skin tone than his face.
The necklace with the three beads that Light is wearing, while it is nice, it seems like it doesn't necessarily need to be there. It's a little hard to notice at this moment. Darkening the chain/string and adding some darker shadows may help bring out that necklace more.
Also, with Light, his wing looks darker than L's. Maybe brighten that up so it matches with L's or so that it looks more noticeable. It also looks like it's blending in with the wall too.
The blue glow around L is a nice touch. Really shows out his angelic side. Also the two light sources must have been hard to work with, but you made it look like it was a piece of cake (which I'm sure L would enjoy e.deviantart.com/emoticons/w/w… " width="15" height="15" alt="
" title="
(Wink)" />). What's great is that the yellow is a very nice golden color and it's easy on the eyes.
Overall this is still a wonderful piece of artwork. I was going to suggest the apple and their faces, but it seems like someone else has mention them so I won't say anything.

Sorry I'm critiqueing again. It's just that you're the only artist I watch that asks for critique! And I love critiqueing!
The folds on the clothing really make this a stand out piece. Your technique makes them look real but somehow.... painted with a pallet knife or really thick watercolours. The same goes for the feathers as well.
They're hair is beautiful, highly detailed... almost photographic! The double light on the hair is a wondrous effect too.
But, on L the light coming from the middle is a lot better represented than the blue from the outside. Its the same for Light but his red outside lighting is better done than the middle light.
Not only that but, something is off with the faces too. They are good on their own but the seem too small for their heads. And Light seems to not have enough chin.
The apple looks a little flat too but that might be because of the watermark.
The Death note and the ribbon on the sythe are fabulous.
Continue to do awesome artwork!

WARNING! Carry on reading! Or you will die, even if you only looked at the word warning!
Once there was a little girl called Clarissa, she was ten-years-old and she lived in a mental
hospital, because she killed her mom and her dad. She got so bad she went to kill all the
staff in the hospital so the More-government decided that best idea was to get rid of her so
they set up a special room to kill her, as humane as possible but it went wrong the
machine they were using went wrong. And she sat there in agony for hours until she died.
Now every week on the day of her death she returns to the person that reads this letter, on
a Monday night at 12:00 a.m. She creeps into your room and kills you slowly, by cutting you
and watching you bleed to death. Now send this to ten other pictures on this one site, and
she will haunt someone else who doesn't. This isn't fake. apparently, if you copy and paste
this to ten comments in the next ten minutes you will have the best day of your life tomorrow. You
will either get kissed or asked out, if you break this chain u will see a little dead girl in your room.

Hello, my name is none of your business. I am suffering from seven rare and deadly diseases, poor scores on final exams, fear of being mauled by squirrels, and guilt for not forwarding out 50 billion chain letters sent to me by people who actually believe that if you send them on, then that poor 6 year old girl in Arkansas with a potato growing out of her forehead will be able to raise enough money to have it removed before her redneck parents sell her off to the traveling freak show. Do you honestly believe that Bill Gates is going to give you and everyone you send “his” email $1000? How stupid are you? Ooooh, looky here! If I scroll down this page and make a wish, I’ll meet the girl (or guy) of my dreams tomorrow! What a bunch of junk. So basically, this message is directed to all the people out there who have nothing better to do than to send me stupid chain letter forwards. Maybe the evil letter leprechauns will come into my house and write “I’m a moron” on my forehead in permanent marker in my sleep for not continuing the chain which was started by a knight of the round table and was brought to this country by midget pilgrims on the Mayflower and if it makes it to the year 2000, it’ll be in the Guinness Book of World Records for longest continuous streak of blatant stupidity. If you’re going to forward something, at least send me something mildly amusing. I’ve seen all the “send this to 50 of your closest friends, and this poor, wretched excuse for a human being will somehow receive a nickel from some omniscient being” forwards about 90 times. It’s getting old. Show a little intelligence and think about what you’re actually contributing to by sending out forwards. Chances are it’s your own unpopularity.
