ughhhh I so admire anyone who can produce this in Photoshop! I just cant seem to do anything in PS. I originally used SAI but since getting a mac (which is not compatible with Macs) cannot produce the same blending as I got with SAI. But seeing amazing PS artists with a style like this makes me want to keep trying!
Thanks for the upload! ^_^

pauscorpi In reply to yupon [2014-12-10 00:37:37 +0000 UTC]

the trick with PS is to take your time to understand how the core settings affect brush behaviour and then adjusting those settings to get a brush you are comfortable with. Sounds like more work than SAI but once you go through the learning curve, you can really do anything you want.

Oh wow! I really needed these words of wisdom, thank you SO much *huwg*
I shall learn more about tablet pressure settings and other settings and hopefully can find a technique of blending that I'm comfortable with!
Have a nice day!

how do you get rid of line art? at what point do you color over them?

ManeCroft [2014-12-09 04:34:46 +0000 UTC]

awesome, this is great for traditional too, for oil probably, sadly It won`t really help with acrylics. maybe the idea but not the same steps, nice...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pauscorpi In reply to ManeCroft [2014-12-10 00:40:15 +0000 UTC]

the general idea can be helpful for traditional but digital colours blend and behave a lot differently than either oil or acrylics, so I would not try to draw parallels. Best description I ever came across " digital painting is in-between oil/acrylics and airbrush, in that it is easier to manipulate than airbrush and harder than oils."

I'm curious idk if you're going to answer but I know everyone draws their characters different. Do you start with the eyes first and then draw the rest of the body or do you shape the body first and then fill in the details?

pauscorpi In reply to Pentegass [2014-12-10 00:41:23 +0000 UTC]

if you are new, the best thing you can do is pend time to just play around with the basic brushes and see how manipulating the various settings one by one affects them.

Is drawing in photoshop is better then in illustrator?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kidokaproject In reply to shiphee [2014-12-08 19:29:19 +0000 UTC]

both are very different programs c: illustrator uses vector data whereas photoshop is pixel data.
i don't think it's a matter of what is better than the other but more of a... what kind of drawing do you want to achieve?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shiphee In reply to kidokaproject [2014-12-08 20:26:15 +0000 UTC]

Not any particular kind, I've been using Illustrator to draw but I saw that most people use photoshop and I was just curious. Thanks

Amazing tutorial! just wanted to ask if anyone knew how to get such beautiful blending as shown above on photoshop? I don't seem to be able to find a nice way of doing so on CS6 yet XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 3

pauscorpi In reply to Charlieon [2014-12-10 00:44:06 +0000 UTC]

the surest way really is to take your time to colour-pick the surrounding colours and go over them again and again with low opacity/flow and repeat yet again until you get it to look how you want. the smudge tool has its good uses but should be used sparingly and with great care because it can easily give a flattened and lifeless look.

kidokaproject In reply to Charlieon [2014-12-08 19:26:14 +0000 UTC]

i would say just play with the opacity and flow of the brushes.
Or you could find brush sets online like the loish brushset  or Essential Illustration Brushes V3 Extended  which are both pretty awesome... and there are many more resources you can find online hope that helps

ponyponychan In reply to Charlieon [2014-12-08 18:27:57 +0000 UTC]

You could use a brush where you can control the opacity, and even though the blend tool isn't as strong as it is on SAI it works well with the smudge tool. The smudge tool is really effective. Idk if that helped.
