Hey Sakimi, and everyone else. I'm just posting this be cause i want to start a dialogue about RWBY. Firstly; what do you think about the series? taking into the account #lettergate , and the fact that they only continuing the series because they want to "preserve Monty's Legacy". Secondly Where do you think this series is going? A single series can't keep going for ever. -Cough- DragonBall- Cough-. Sorry about that. But really, where will it go, after the supposed 20 seasons planned (by which case i think even the creators will be bored and will have lost all inspiration to keep the show going.) what will they do?
Here my thoughts and opinions on the series as of late:
What drew me into the series (when i was in high school) was the unique approach to the aesthetic of anime into a 3d animated medium, and the fight choreography. But was suppose to keep me watching the series, the fight choreography and the character driven narrative? This can be true with the first 2 seasons. But upon being more learned and having watch shows that would scar a normal person (Gen Urobuchi I'm looking at you), seeing well done/subjectively better fight choreography (ufotable) and subsequently better character driven narratives (KyoAni), I can't help but feel that the series is feeling rather lackluster, and really constructed like a Frankenstein monster of a series. Trying to mix-and-match/collage all the anime genres into one show.
Ultimately; what makes this series rather unwatchable as of late (Volume 3), is the terrible pacing, abysmally poor quality of the writing, lack of attention to animation details.
Pacing; Volumes 1 and 2 ultimately culminated to about 289 minutes (only taking minute values from Youtube, no rounding). with the average anime episode runtime of 22 minutes, they have roughly 13 episodes worth of runtime. Including Volume 3 bumps it to 516, meaning entire 23 episodes worth of runtime. In 3 "Volumes" they manage to start a single season of RWBY in terms of run time.
Poor writing; Firstly, in the first few volumes, they never set a precedent for character death in the very first episodes. it was too happy go lucky. Not to mention, they seem to not show how JNPR and RWBY interacted.....like at all. thus Pyhrra's death seems to have little to no weight with this viewer in particular. Secondly, in how contrived some of the elements of this story were written. Cinder's Plan......Her entire speech........ Not to mention the existence of Winter (and the hereditary Semblance) alone break the series. If Weiss is the heiress, why does she have an older sister that is more than eligible to be the next head of the SDC? Also why is the Schnee family Semblence even Hereditary, when all supposed Semblances are to be UNIQUE between even FAMILY MEMBERS?
Lack of attention to animation; Monty stated in the RWBY podcast that the conservation of momentum and transferring energy from one action into another was key to the show. But the initial flourish in the first episode, was not only pointless but also targetless, so what was the point of the flourish anyway? also the closed ice fist, captured guys were literally in the neutral model stance while in side the fist, non-moving blocks effectively. also almost non-existence of IK (inverse-kinematics) on foot of the ice breaking hit, making it look like it was floating, and the fact that the icefist seemed to move little to no distance from the intial shot to the final shot.
I could go on, but my post is already a wall. So for more similar opinions on the series just Search up fatmanfalling on Youtube, and watch his Volume 1-3 Review.
tl:dr I am really upset with how bad the writing, animation, and slow the show is.

"Objectively", your favorite movie can be considered shit if some douchebag like Monsieur Yiung tore it apart. The whole point of the first two seasons was to pass RWBY off as a fun show, then turn it on its head midway through Volume 3. It's called shock value. Now, it's getting serious and you could point in any direction and the plot could go another. Not everyone can pull off symbolism effectively, such as when the floor turned into a chess board during the Cinder v Ozpin fight.

shock value isn't a good device, and serious is not synonymous with good. i like the show and the characters but if you look at it critically it's not really that good. fun definitely - but not good

And if you didn't enjoy it, why are you so hell-bent on trying to ruin everything for everyone that loves the show? I hate MLP, but I don't go hunting down every artist who makes MLP artwork and harass them about it, even when it invades on the things I love, like Armored Core, Ace Combat, and RWBY. So, please, if you don't like the show, why don't you take your opinion, shove it up your ass, and leave everyone the hell alone?
