This is a tip Sheet with some useful info I learned about how to simplify anatomy in school, I'm simply sharing what I know. : )
In school my teacher told us a very important concept. Don't do the details until you have a solid structure done ,otherwise everything will fall apart.(something like that)This means, the best way to start a picture is by blocking in the basic form/shape/structure to get an idea of what the image will look like, If the image looks good then the final stage whould be adding the details.

-Please note that this is very general, it's very brief and it's not the only way to simplify anatomy.

This tip sheet mainly focuses on simplifying the general male and female anatomy so that artist with difficulty drawing a gender would have a better idea of their differences.

Also My advice to my fellow artist is to use references, nude references are preferred or if u can, attend life drawing sessions ^^

If you have any questions about this tutorial feel free to post below and I'll get back to you asap.

This will be a wonderful help with my anatomy (which I am terrible at.)
I always try to get all fancy right off the bat.
This has taught me that is a big nono.
Maybe I'll take a step back from now on and take it slow and easy at first, then it can get intense.
Kudos to this tutorial.

Beautiful, detailed, and well organized guide. The little jokes in the guide are a nice touch too. I hope that you won't mind if I use this as a reference for when I practice on drawing the human figure in the future. Keep up the good work!

I'm only asking but is it okay to draw figures without starting them with boxes and circles? I know it's useful in terms of proportion but I often drew hard and it would be hard to rub out the lines.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

MariJPan In reply to bear-run [2013-04-06 21:00:58 +0000 UTC]

The point is that you're supposed to begin drawing lightly with making different shapes and lines, and then flesh out the character (lightly!). Until you've created a product that is done in light pencil strokes, only then can you begin to darken those lines, and later ink them, if you please.
The reason artists use this method of drawing lightly and creating shapes is to not only make sure the proportions are correct, but also to make sure that the drawing itself looks good. Just drawing heavy dark lines will not help, especially at beginners level. I definitely suggest drawing lightly.
