Description

Made a new one instead of adding to the old one cause the old one's a cobbled mess (and also I don't have Photoshop anymore so I don't have any programs that can do text editing anyway).

2016: Somewhere around the second half of freshman year and starting my sophomore year of university. First half of the year was mostly spent playing *so much* Pokemon. Second half of the year was the beginning of uh.....a rather unfortunate housemate situation (roommate was an absolute angel though thank fuck). Was also when I started working part-time in retail and well.....poor little me learned that people suck.

2017: Moved into a new place so I finally had a room to myself. Quit retail and started a side business selling textbooks + whatever else I could flip. Also just *died* because I had to start taking pchem (remember kids: pchem is more math than chem so if you suck at math....good luck). Also took inorganic chemistry and wow I hate MO diagrams so much. The experiments were fun though (always created interesting colors).

2018: Realized I was about done with all my courses for my degree, so decided "fuck it" and took three chem labs and a writing class in a single quarter (~19 hrs/wk in the lab). Honestly wasn't as bad as it sounds; definitely preferable to 19 hrs/wk in lectures. Graduated six months early with a BS in Chemistry at the end of the year (hooray?)

2019: I was planning on taking a year to just chill and maybe figure out what my next steps were, but my circumstances led me to job hunting (aka I was a broke child). Started working in an analytical chem lab in March, and still working there today. This year, I spontaneously bought a car (I still laugh my ass off telling that story) and a used iPad Pro. Also bought an Apple Pencil and Procreate because why not? I wanted to see how well it worked (Hint: I love it and now my Wacom sits at my desk collecting dust....oops). Initially started using the program and I was like wow this kinda sucks? The default brushes aren't *bad* per se, but I was struggling to get them to work the way I wanted them to since they mimic traditional media and I was used to digital. Sketched a few things, but never found a brush I liked enough to use for lineart so nothing ever got finished. Also, totally guesstimating on whether those sketches were drawn during that year cause tbh I really don't remember and there's no timestamp for it since I had to move everything over to my new iPad (but they were probably done around either late 2019 or early 2020).

2020: Well....you all know what happened here. The industry I work in was considered "essential" so I never really stopped going into work (lowkey kinda wish I got furloughed just so I could get a break from working so much). Still sketching here and there but nothing huge because again, I didn't like any of the default brushes for lineart. Bought Animal Crossing sometime in April and proceeded to dump 600 hours into the game (and counting cause I'm not done with my island yet smh). Bought the Jingsketch brush bundle in October for my birthday cause I kept seeing ads for it (yeah I'm really susceptible to it I guess) and honestly? I dig the hell out of that brush pack and would totally recommend it to anyone that wants a good textured brush set. Not saying you *have* to buy a brush set to find something good cause there are tons of awesome free ones, but I like how straightforward these brushes are and experimenting with them always gives me pretty good results I'd say. Also got COVID right before Christmas so I had to spend my holidays quarantined in my room (used that time to watch all of FMA and FMAB and wowie that was a good show).

2021: Got a new iPad Pro and Apple Pencil at the end of 2020 and I've been rocking it since. I'll probably update this again with new images once 2021 is over but for now this is where the journey ends. Been trying to push my limits a bit more by playing with backgrounds and lighting (something I've been wanting to do since like....2015 I think?) so hopefully we see some progress there.
