Description
these are the main protagonists for the story, which I have un-creatively named "A Story of Swords"

I imagine this in a video game like setting, which is why there are two protagonists
the player can choose between the male counterpart and the female counterpart

the male is named Kaito
and the female is named Keiko

they act as the hero's of the story and act as this girl's new Wielder.

Technically the sword in their hands are supposed to be the same size, but the one in Kaito's hand looks much bigger than it's supposed to ; < ;

At the beginning of the story it takes place in a flashback where the protagonist's mother is telling them the story about the ancient magical swords and how they were sealed away. (the same story from this )
It's later that it goes into the future, or in current time, where the protagonists are older. Right before they wake up they have a strange dream involving darkness and destruction, along with someone in a mysterious black mask. This dream is almost like a vision, telling them of the danger that will soon come.
It is in this dream that they hear the voice of a girl, who is calling out to them for help, and asking them to find her and awaken her.

They wake up from this dream confused, but simply disregard it as "just a strange dream" but they continue to think about it the rest of the day.
The protagonists are part of a guild in their village. They go out to fulfill one of their requests on the guild board regarding bandits that have been hiding along the roads in order to ambush travelers.

The protagonist spots the bandits and decides to follow them in case there's a bandit camp nearby. The protagonist follows them into a cave where it seems as though the bandits have discovered something, a hidden passageway within one of the walls.
But the protagonist hears it, the voice of the girl from their dream. The voice is faint, but it's clearly there, calling out to them.

Inside they discover a mysterious room. The room seems to be covered in a mysterious black and purple ooze. And the only thing that is visible is what seems to be the hilt of the sword.
The bandits assume it's treasure and attempt to steal the sword, but they cannot. Monsters emerge from the dark ooze, monsters made from the same substance. And the monsters attack the bandits, killing them by submerging them in that same ooze.

The voice calls out again to the protagonist, this time more audible than before, and from beneath the ooze of the sword they can see a faint light.
So the protagonist decides to fight the mysterious grotesque monsters and wins. The ooze clears away from the room, and revealing what was hiding underneath.
The source of the faint light, is a glass like coffin and within is a girl. And the protagonist hears the voice again.

"What you have witnessed here...is only the beginning of what terrible malice will spread across this land.."

The protagonist is confused and asks if she is the voice they heard in their dream.

"Yes I am...it was the only way I could call out to you...and in that dream, what you saw was is the dark future that will plague this land..but I- No...we can stop it..."

What makes you think I can stop something like this? Or even stop what may be the end of this land?

"Because I've seen you fight...you were able to fight off the creatures of malice...and thus I see you as worthy to be my wielder..."

The protagonist is sceptical.

"I beg of you...take my hilt and release me from this slumber...and I can help you to save this land..no...the world too is at stake-! So please...I ask that you believe me..."

The protagonist, giving it some thought, they decide to believe the voices words. Making their way over to the sword, it is embedded in stone. They take both hands over the hilt, and with all their strength, pull it from the ground!

The glass on the coffin begins to crack, until it shatters completely. Turning the small bits of glass into glowing sparkles that seemingly flutter off into the air.
And the girl in the coffin awakens.
