Description

The memory of it curls through your bones like a serpent, filling all those dark and hollow places with its poison.

The rose in her hand makes me think she went out to the forest to meet a secret admirer who had left her a note. As she arrives at the place they were to meet a large snake lowers itself from the trees above. Before she could run the snake's tail drops low from the trees behind her causing her to trip, in horror she looks up at the snake now on the ground and curled at her feet. She starts to scream when the snake makes a hissing sound that almost sounded like it was shushing her. She paused to look closer at the snake, she looked at the snake's body and realized it had an almost liquid movement to it, and the belly looked to be made of pearls shining in the sun's rays, and it's eyes had a dull red glow to them. Before she could move to try and get away the snake spoke to her in a soft gentle tone, "Please lie still, it'll make the pain go away faster". She was astonished that the snake spoke but she was also confused as to what it said, then she felt it, a hot pain climbing her legs, but she couldn't feel her feet. She looked down and saw in horror as her legs started melting away into a black liquid that looked a lot like the snake's scales;"I'm sorry," the snake said," but you backed into me and touched my scales, now my poison is taking affect eating at your body the way your worst memories eat at your mind. By the looks of how fast my poison is working you are haunted by a terrible past, seems like us meeting was mercy for you." At this point her legs were already gone and the pain moved to her stomach, she started to cry, but the tears weren't of fear or sorrow, they were tears of releif as she will finnaly be freed of her nightmares. Moments later her crying stopped, and she lied still in a forever rest.

I love this amazing story you’ve come up with for this piece! I also love how closely it, in many ways, parallels my intentions.Β

I dont know what it is about this drawing that touched me so much. maybe the description giving it depth, maybe the way it feels like actual poison seeping through the cracks of my phone and into my hands, reaching my veins and by the time its hit my brain the memories of things I wish I didnt have to remember suddenly come back, filling my mind with its poison.
This illustration has been the first thing in a long time that was able to touch my heart and soul like that. I don't know what you were going for with this, but my interpretation is this:
Bad memories ways find a way to come back and flood your mind and veins with a deadly poison, and you can try to stop it but it's no use because it always reaches your heart, and when it does it's far too late to fall asleep

I’m glad that this piece resonated and touch you, but am deeply saddened that it triggered painful memories in you. Sometimes it can be so much easier to pour out pain in a symbolic, visual format than words. I don’t usually talk about the symbolism in my art, I just feel awkward about it since it’s usually very personal, but this was really about the fear and paralysis, and dissociation that accompanies trauma and the anxiety the memory of it can stir in you even years later. The rose was a symbol that this trauma was caused by someone who had been trusted and that trust itself was also poisoned not just for that person/persons but for all people after that, which is why it has turned black and begin to fall apart. Her skin is blueish and her eyes staring off into nothing as a way of showing that these events can make the survivors feel like a piece of them has died, that there is a hollowness left behind. The scene and the lighting is meant to be peaceful and beautiful with the goal of showing that these things can happen in beautiful places on perfectly beautiful days, that it isn’t like the movies where it’s always a dark and stormy night.

That's truly the mindset I got from this beautiful piece. It's amazing how art can convey a feeling as deep as that with ease. This is the most emotion I've ever felt over someone's art, meaning you've successfully become one of the greatest artists I know. Thank you for the opportunity to see such a beautiful drawing
