Traveling with a demon-slayer can be awfully inconvenient
BBRae Week ‘19 | Day 7 | AU/Multiverse
She did not want to do this, but she knew she had to. It was kill or be killed, she reasoned. After all, it was just a matter of time before he discovered that she was half-demon and kill her.
But as he prattled on, something about how his adoptive demon-slaying family taught him how to transform into different animals, she couldn’t help but think how nice it would be to have a family like that. To have people to love and depend on.
Although the boy was mostly air-headed and tended to talk too much, he was kind to her throughout their journey. And as much as she hated to admit it, she had started thinking of him as a friend.
It would be terribly rude to kill a friend.
Not that he would care once he finds out that you’re a demon.
How ironic, she thought, that her first friend would be orphaned by one of her own kind, and live to bear a hatred for her race for the rest of his life.
“…so, you see, you were really lucky to have met me in the forest, or heavens knows how many demons you would have encountered during your journey.”
“Yes, of course…” she gave a half-hearted reply, hoping he wouldn’t notice that she hadn’t been listening at all.
“The Doom Patrol also taught me many useful skills, like how to sniff out a demon from a mile away.”
“Uh huh.” She resisted the urge to tell him that he’s far from having mastered the skill, what with the time they spent together.
“Hey, are you even listening?”
“Huh? Oh… yes, I was.”
“Hmm… You know…” he narrowed his eyes suspiciously at her. “I could have sworn you smell a lot like a demon…”
“W-what…? That’s… that’s ridiculous!”
He broke into a smile. “Haha I was just kidding. You should have looked at your face!”
“Ha… haha…” she let out a nervous laughter she hoped would pass for a real one.
“Don’t worry, as long as I’m around, any demon would be vanquished easily with a snap of my fingers!”
“… that’s exactly what I’m worried about…”
“Hm? What did you say?”
“N-nothing.”
It would be another day before they reach the capital. She prayed to the heavens with all her might to let her survive the last leg of the journey. Tomorrow, she would be rid of this… Beast Boy. And if she was lucky enough, she would be able to find the retired Robin and warn him of the upcoming demon uprising. Until then, she would have to keep her guards up for at least another day…
