Yeah, I find Peach's credibility a bit questionable too. I mean, she can save herself in Super Smash Bros.(most of the time) and she was a little self-reliant in Paper Mario, heck, she even has her own DS game, but it's very sad that she can't even beat up a few Goomba's...so sad...

hmm... the only prob in Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga is that peach lost her voice. that's it.
but in Mario bros 2 she can beat up shy guys and other. even toad's doing something in that game you might not see that again
