It was a quiet night at the Jackson’s. The air was thick, having it just rained a few hours ago, but Gobi preferred it that way. His wife sat upstairs, unable to locate their child who seemed to be everywhere and nowhere at all times. She was supposed to have returned home hours ago, but her mother was used to her noticeable absence. He set his fourth beer down, or maybe it was his fifth, (he couldn’t tell on account of his drunken state). He made his way towards the stairs, and was about to call up to his wife, when he heard footsteps outside. So quietly he turned to peer out the window, something that would later save his wife from her demise. As he looked outside he saw a few figures, all of which seemed to be wearing some sort of mask. Now most people in this situation would lock their doors and call the police, but Gobi wasn’t most people. Hell the police would probably take their jolly time getting there anyways. Anger rising, he threw open the door, alerting his wife upstairs that something wasn’t quite right.
“Hey you damned kids, what the hell you doin’ on my property?”
The figures swung their heads simultaneously to face him. The masks blocking their expressions, as the tallest one stepped out to meet him. As it spoke, their voice came muffled and garbled through the fabric.
“Mr. Jackson, I presume?”
Gobi scowled and shoved the figure back, his wife peeking out the blinds upstairs.
“Yeah that’s me, if you don’t get off my damn lawn I’m gonna call the cops you freaks o’ nature.”
“Is your wife and child home?” The figure stepped closer, their breath heavy through the mask.
“No they ain’t, now fucking scat before I-“
He was cut off as his throat was opened, dark shades of red splattered the ground and the tall figures hand. Mrs., now Miss Jackson, held her hand to her mouth to hold back a scream. Quickly she turned and vanished into the house.
The figure watched Gobi’s body as it twitched on the ground, the blood beginning to flow less from the fatal wound. His accomplices stayed quiet, afraid to speak.
“…Search the house.” They finally said after taking a long heavy breath. The others quickly scattered inside to follow its demand.
