It's nice to have a beautiful regular couple rather than the can-never-be-together-with-the-Doctor angst all the time. And I did feel bad that Mickey kind of got screwed over. How many changes of universe did he go through?

Yeah, by the time Eleven came along I was done with women angsting over the Doctor. And I say that as a fan of Martha. I felt that Mickey really did get screwed over by the series, despite his awesome development as a character. As much as I loved him and Martha, them being shoved together just felt really forced and wrong to me.
Tl;dr - the newer seasons handle romance better in my eyes. XD

I like a punchline that takes a while to build up to, instead of "random jokes frequently". It feels classier that way.

It does, and then when you occasionally get a random sudden joke the impact is greater and you're laughing for the next half hour.
