Day in and day out. Step by laboured step. Feet wearing out the floor and grinding themselves to the bone. Stretching, posing, holding...pain. A price they were all willing to pay for the hint of a promise of riches and stages.

And lift those arms...

Of costumes and roses, of letters from admirers. Candlelight on tables in the finest hotel dining rooms. Limousines with cocktails, or even horse-drawn carriges.

Reach for the heavens, girls...

To be envied and revered by lesser mortals. They would be wood nymphs, mermaids, goddesses, enchantresses - beautiful beyond compare, living legends. Nothing would be able to touch them. They would carve their names into the rock of history, join the ranks of the immortals.

Stretch...

Their performance would be perfect. More graceful, more fraught with emotion, more spectacular than anything ever seen before. Crowds would cheer in rapture, stamp their feet, demand more, more, MORE! Do not leave us - please stay! Just one more dance, we beg of you! But they would only smile, incline their heads and take a final bow as the curtain fell.

And...relax.

There was still a long way to go. But somehow. Some way. Some day it would all be theirs.

There's always something realistic and nostalgic about ballerinas...and their ambitions. Really enjoyed it.

Great job capturing the dancers emotions and also their movements. I could see and feel every element of this piece.

I kind of think of some kind of evil villain, who's telling all of his creations to dance. (Especially as their lives depend on it.)
