this looks so amazing! I love looking at WIP's what is that tape on her neck? What is that material she is standing on?

Thank you! ^^
I sculpted her mane after baking the body. The tape is for making it easier to separate them.
That foam she's standing on is floor insulation foam. Very convenient for holding the figures while painting

I can't NOT notice that her bottom is so nicely formed.
I'll be curious about your finished figurine.

Lol!
I can say I'm just as curious as you about how this will turn out

Bah! Don't say that.
I love your Luna sculpture! She looks great from every angle and those wings are superb
How is she coming along btw?
But thank you for the compliments ^^

Progressing slowly. Next time I'm ordering Sculptey(do you have to bake that?) or Magic Sculpt. I feel bad for only making one sculpt in such a long time.
Can't wait for your Twi!

Good to hear you're making progress
Yes, Sculpey needs to be baked. I usually bake my figures in 2-4 layers at a lower temperature.
Makes it a lot harder and more durable.

It looks absolutely amazing!
The detail to hair and tail is like nothing I've seen before.
I have some questions, do you use support material like tinfoil or wires? Or is this SuperSculpey only here?
I'd be afraid her tail might break off, how do you keep the tail in that position before/while baking?
Tack i försprång!

SameAsUsual In reply to Zarylo [2013-05-16 21:15:29 +0000 UTC]
Thank you so much!
Yes, there is a wire skeleton inside. I usually also have some foil to bulk out the shapes, but this time it's all Sculpey baked in layers.
It gives a more solid feel and makes it easier if you need to drill or sand.
Both the hair and tail are made as separate pieces and will be glued on after painting them

Zarylo In reply to SameAsUsual [2013-05-20 22:48:18 +0000 UTC]
What kind of glue do you use?
And do you use temporary glue or something to keep it in place for the work in progress picture you made?
I know I'm a bit nosy, might be something I want to try myself.

SameAsUsual In reply to Zarylo [2013-05-26 14:31:07 +0000 UTC]
I mostly use super glue, and epoxy if I need a stronger seam.
There is a piece of the support wire sticking out from the tail and a corresponding hole in the figure. This will be glued permanently once it's painted.

Zarylo In reply to SameAsUsual [2013-05-27 08:26:50 +0000 UTC]
That simplifies painting the parts, and then there's only a seam left to fix..
Thanks that explains most of the magic.

1zacster [2013-05-14 06:53:11 +0000 UTC]
amazing! did you sculpt that or make them then apply them one at a time? either way GAWD DAYUM dat quality
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SameAsUsual In reply to 1zacster [2013-05-14 14:29:59 +0000 UTC]
I cut out pieces of clay and applied a couple at a time to the tail before doing a quick bake to secure them.
Then rinse and repeat
Happy you like it ^^

Thanks!
I'll try to finish it as fast as I can (which, if looking at my previous figures, won't be very fast :/ )
Now to decide if she will have wings or not...

I think she's cuter without them. c:

You have a point
I initially made the pose with wings in mind, but the more I think about it, the more I consider skipping them.

Zarylo In reply to SameAsUsual [2013-05-14 18:59:06 +0000 UTC]
Good question.
If you decide to make wings as detailed as the tail and hair it might take a while, I look forward to see how you design them if you decide to do so.

SameAsUsual In reply to Zarylo [2013-05-19 23:14:04 +0000 UTC]
If I make wings they will lean towards the simpler series-accurate wings. But I don't know if I have the time to make them.

Zarylo In reply to SameAsUsual [2013-05-20 22:39:21 +0000 UTC]
I'm convinced it will look great, whatever you choose. It's your piece of art and your decision.
show-accurate is always good, your art is very detailed on top of that; and that is what I find so amazing about it.
I'm not going to complain even if it takes you ten years for you to complete the statue
So don't feel any time pressure on my behalf.

The tail looks quite comely, I really like the design of it. And the pose is spot-on.
Can't wait for the finished product.

Thank you
I'm aiming for a late May deadline...

I actually thought of that, too, as I typed it. Partially the reason why I didn't change it.
Yes, I think I can survive till then.

Wow! Inte visste jag att du var svensk!
Ser att du använder Super Sculpey.
Är det så att du ska måla den sen, eller ljuter du av den?
Vill själv göra modeller (fast inte inom My Little Pony).
Ps. Mycket snyggt det du har åstadkommit hittills!

SameAsUsual In reply to mangaanime [2013-05-14 11:01:30 +0000 UTC]
Jupp, visst är jag svensk
Jag målar direkt på leran. Har funderat en del på att göra gjutformar men har inte haft tid att testa än.
Du borde testa Funkar förmodligen finfint med de flesta modelleror.
Och tack så mycket

mangaanime In reply to SameAsUsual [2013-05-14 18:25:51 +0000 UTC]
Ok.
Men du bränner väl leran innan målning?

Same, I'm getting the feeling you're outdoing yourself here. Twilight's body and head look perfect, and what you decided to do for her mane and tail is looking fantastic!
I just really like the layers and edges.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SameAsUsual In reply to ColonelYeo [2013-05-13 23:09:51 +0000 UTC]
Thanks!
I'm not sure I like the idea of outdoing myself. It makes me look bad
I get more and more happy with the choice of mane/tail tbh. And the fact it takes 1/10 of the time making it compared to my previous is not that bad either
