"I challenge you to pixel a hybrid of a plant and two animals with no more than 12 colours. No transparency allowed.", by ValaSedai , in the "I Challenge You Contest" leaded by Mrs-Durden .

Step 1: Read the challenge once...
Step 2: Wonder what you're gonna do with less than 21 colors in mind...
Step 3: Get a vague idea... start slightly a few days later, but stay in your procrastination.
Step 4: Read again about 2 weeks later, figure it was not 21 but 12 COLORS.
(love that emoticon cause it's so descriptive...)
Step 5: Deal with it.

A hybrid of a plant? A few weeks ago before being given this challenge, I ate those sorts of yellow tomatoes that kinda looked like pumpkins... so I thought it could be used as a fun idea to represent.

As for the animals... I took some more time to think.

For the colors, I ended up with 10:
- purple of the sky
- white of the stars
- shade of grey n°1 (owl's legs)
- shade of grey n°2 (starry line on the sky)
- yellow (hybrid tomato)
- dark yellow (hybrid tomato's shadow + cat + owl's eyes)
- darker yellow (cat's shadows)
- green on the tomatoes' stems
- red on the average tomatoes
- black.

Well, I confess I had quite some confusion concerning what counted as different colors or not... but I managed more or less to restrict myself. No play on the transparency either. I guess the result is fairly decent.
