Description
Ema hoped she was approaching the end of a long journey. She'd flown from her home state of Hemlich to Issa State. Arriving into Issa City Trans Global Skyport earlier that day. That was a twelve hour long haul. Another couple of hours to clear customs, security checks and collect her baggage. Then she'd taken the skyrail train to the city of Dexter. It was a high speed train but that journey had taken an hour or so. Finally, she'd collected her rental car at Dexter Skyrail station and headed out looking for her hotel. The Homewood Suites by Hilton. Just off Dexter Parkway. Across for the Mall of Dexter and a giant Walbert Supercenter.Focused on staying awake, Ema drove the rental out of the lot. It was a white full sized Chevrolet pick-up. The best vehicle the dopey kid at the rental desk had in stock. Not the Porsche Ema drove back home but it would do nicely. It fitted in well in Dexter. A city of 220,000 people that was on the very northern edge of the Issa City Metroplex. Far enough out not to be a suburb but close enough to be connected. It was why the tiberium drilling industry had located many of its warehouses and distribution points in Dexter. Connected but not so close the land was expensive.
Ema stopped at the intersection. Several miles to the south was open scrub land and the glow of the Issa Department of Corrections Unit - Dexter. Beyond that was the glow of Issa City and its suburbs. To the north was the city of Dexter. The neon lights lighting up like an oasis in the pancake flat landscape.
Ema hit the gas and headed north. 11.30pm and the road was quiet. On a steady cruise, Ema stood to the speed limit and headed into town. She had the Homewood Suites programmed into the pick-up's onboard GPS. Seven miles to go.
Then the calm was broken.
A sudden burst of flashing strobe lights. The blip of a siren. Ema gulped. A police SUV was right on her rear fender. Ema made out the bullbars on the front. The black and white paint. The words Dexter Police Department.
"What the..."
All kinds of panic rushed through the normally cool Ema. Police in Issa State had a reputation. Don't screw with them. Ema had watched all kinds of documentaries on it. Her favourite being Real Cops of Issa State. The primary reason being to check out the burly cop girls who starred on the reality show. But she'd also gotten the law and order message.
Ema complied.
Steering across four lanes and stopping next to the highway. Still a mile or so out of town she'd stopped next to scrub land scrub land. There billboard signs along the highway. She'd stopped under a Mega Burger sign. Nervous Ema looked in her rear view mirror. The Dexter PD had stopped directly behind her. Its strobe lights still flashing. Ema could make out a brunette female head behind the wheel. She smiled ruefully. Now she was going to get to chance to meet one of Issa burly cop girls, for real.
"Now how much did I have to drink of the plane..."
Behind the wheel of the SUV, Officer Jordan Shults finished keying the pick-up's details into her onboard computer. A rental. Collected less than an hour ago from Hertz at the skyrail station. No details of the driver. She took a breath. Keyed into her computer that she was conducting a traffic stop. No need to radio it in; this was routine. Didn't ask for back-up; the driver had complied and pulled over. But as she stepped out of her SUV and strolled toward the drivers window she unclipped her holster and made sure her fingerprints were on the rear fender. Guns were everywhere in Issa State and people who drove on the wrong side of the road could be trigger happy. She wanted her finger prints on the car.
"License and registration" said Jordan.
"Of course" said Ema, passing across her Hemlich State license and the rentals insurance particulars.
"Wait here."
Ema did as she was told. Looking in her mirror as the cop girl trotted by to her SUV. She did look like one of the stars on Real Cops of Issa State. Ema had read the cops name badge; Officer Shults. Young, good looking, buffed up and well fed. Muscles bulging out of her blue uniforms short shirt sleeves. Wide shoulders and a v-shaped back. A solid belly popping out over her ultility belt. Thick powerful thighs and a hefty butt. Uniform a little tight fitting. Her chest and middle section appearing even more chunked up than it should. Ema knew that was the body armour all Issan patrol cops wore. Ema looked at the gun on her belt. The holster was unclipped. She gulped. This cop girl wasn't screwing around.
"What was I doing?" asked Ema to herself. Mentally replaying the stop. She'd been doing the speed limit. The road had been empty. Was this some bad cop playing big shot? She was still miles out of town. The pick-up rocked as a big rig truck blasted past and roared on toward Dexter. Then the road was silent again. Just the flash of the strobe light behind her.
A few minutes later Officer Shults returned. Holster still unclipped. Figure illuminated by the strobe lights.
"Ma'am, what side of the road do you drive on Hemlich State?" asked Jordan.
"The left."
"Yeah, well here we drive on the right here in Issa. Keep your hands on the steering wheel."
"Oh shit, did I...did I..."
"Hands on the wheel" said Jordan with authority.
Ema did as she was told.
"Keep your hands on the wheel at all times when I'm talking to you. Understand?"
"Yes. Yes ma'am" said Ema, despite herself. This girl was young enough to be her daughter and Ema wasn't a woman accustomed to saying "ma'am". But the muscles, badge and gun gave this girl an air of authority. For a brief moment Ema was in full compliance mode. She'd watched Real Cops of Issa State. She needed this traffic stop to go well.
"Where are you headed?" asked Jordan.
Ema collected herself and focused. She guessed the cop had checked her out. All Issan patrol vehicles were connected to the state Internal Security system. Ema knew that from Real Cops of Issa State. She figured there would be a record of her arrival in Issa City earlier that day. Officer Shults was checking her out. Ema also knew why Officer Shults wanted Ema's hands on the wheel. That way she couldn't pull a gun.
"I'm not armed" said Ema.
"That's cool ma'am. Keep your hands on the wheel and answer my questions. You remember my question?"
"Yes. Of course."
"Then what was it?"
Ema gulped. Collecting herself.
"You asked where I'm headed."
"And where are you headed?"
"I'm going to the Homewood Suites."
"The Homewood in Dexter?"
"Yes."
"Why are you here in Dexter?"
"I'm here on a business trip. I do some work for Tibero. I'm visiting depot here. On supply chain development. I can show you the contract details if that helps?"
"When did you arrive in Issa?"
"This afternoon. Late. I flew into IC. Then the skytrain out here."
"You have much to drink before you got here?"
"A few. Many hours ago."
Jordan smiled. Revealing a set of pearly white teeth. She knew this cute businesswoman with the funny accent had flown first class. That detail was on the Homeland Security database. Jordan had never done first class but she guessed there were plenty of free drinks in the first class cabin. For a moment she figured out what to do. Driving on the wrong side of the road she could do a drink driving test. If cutie failed that she could arrest her. But cutie Ema had been respectful. Rich and she hadn't tried to pay her way out. She didn't look drunk. Tired but not drunk. She would be borderline on the breath test. If she'd been a bitch Jordan would have hauled her in for a night in the station jail. Least she could do was write her a ticket. But this chick was cute in an a hot older woman way. Really cute. Jordan had a thing for older women. Besides, arresting somebody was a pain in the ass. All that paperwork. That and Ema Kluger could have been called Ema Cougar. A traffic stop with no wreck was hardly going to get anybody's attention.
"Here's what we're gonna do" said Jordan "you're going to follow me to the Homewood. Then your going to get some sleep and not drive for eight hours. Okay?"
"Yes" nodded Ema.
"Follow me."
Relief pouring through her Ema watched the girl stroll back to her SUV. Those uniform pants were tight around her butt and thighs. A sexy chunker who was getting chunkier.
Jordan got back into her SUV. Cancelled the traffic stop detailed on her onboard computer and then slipped the vehicle into drive. Slowly driving past Ema's pick-up. Waiting for her to follow. Ema followed. Driving on a steady cruise into town Jordan kept an eye on the headlights in her mirror. Ema was following at a safe distance. In Dexter the traffic picked up. Not busy but there were cars, trucks and SUV's in and out of the 24 hour Walbert Supercenter lot or nosing round the fast food drive thru's. Seeing Jordan's Dexter PD unit all suddenly complied with all traffic laws. Driving past the Best Western and Holiday Inn, Jordan indicated and steering into the Homewood Suites by Hilton lot. It was half full. She stopped and watched Ema park. With the engine idling she waited for Ema to get out of her car. Jordan wanted to check her out.
Jordan wasn't disappointed. The tight and toned figure of Ema stepped out of her car and walked over.
"Thanks, Officer Shults" said Ema, her cool returning.
"You bet. Just make sure you drive on the right side of the road when you're here. Don't want to be scraping your hot face up out of a wreck."
"Indeed" nodded Ema.
"Guess I better get back out there..."
"Any chance of a quick selfie with you?" asked Ema.
"Ummmm...sure."
Stepping down from her unit, Jordan posed for a selfie. Happily stepping close to Ema. She smelled nice. The smart phone camera flashed. Ema showed her the picture. It was a good.
"I can text it you, if you want?" said Ema.
That got a smile from Jordan. A very smart way to ask for her phone number.
"Sure. Its 02981083183."
"Okay, I'll send it later. Thanks again Officer Shults."
An hour or so passed. Jordan was driving the streets of Dexter. Her patrol route covered the cities Northern Precinct. A sprawling area including retail zones, the industrial district, skyrail station and the Mustang Creek housing sprawl. It was quieter now but there was still traffic. Chatter on the radio. Another officer had been called out to a suspected break-in at the Red Rocket Drilling warehouse. The thief long gone. No need for Jordan to head over. There was some kind of domestic dispute going on over at Mustang Creek. The bars would close in an hour or so. That always promised some action and drunk drivers.
She slowed for a red light on Commercial Boulevard. Then a text landed on her personal cell. Jordan glanced at it. The message was from Ema. She'd sent the photo and a simple "X" in the message.
Jordan accelerated away and stopped in the empty Sirloin Stockade lot. For a moment she debated the response. A businesswoman from out of town. Single and Jordan could see some potential in that set up. Not slutty and prone to sleeping around...but...well...Jordan saw potential in the set up. But she also knew not to move too quickly. She was a cop and she'd just given Ema a really sweet deal out of a reckless driving offence. Best to play it slow and safe. She keyed in:
"Thanks very much Ema. Awsum pic! Now get some sleep. Jordan."
The response was sixty seconds later.
"Goodnight Jordan x."
