Hell of a fight and still one of my favorite moments in the pokemon games. "So there is the most powerful trainer atop this mountain and if you climb it you can fight him. Okay I'm here who is-HOLY SHIT ITS RED AND HE IS THRASHING ME."

how about 'never'?
i mean, the anime as a whole, including the movies, is nothing more than a tool marketing anyway. I find Pokemon the Origin more entertaining to watch than this, and I've been watching that for so many times that I lost count, 'cause I'm trying so hard to avoid the Pok'emon XY anime that came out recently and won't leave me alone.

Well after dealing with all the seasons of the anime for so long, you're bound to know whats gonna happen when next gen comes around. Why its more predictable than Naruto in terms of story at that point.

Quite probably. Still I don't hate Ash, I hate what they did with him. Honestly I don't see Ash or Red as better or worse. There's no comparing them really. They aren't meant to fill the same role.
Ash has to continually be weak to grow stronger, which caused him to stagnate. He has gotten worse as the series progressed, but I recall him for what he was, not what he is now.
Red is the gold standard. THE very best like no one ever was. Beating him proves a trainer and pokemon's skill, and even after he's reached the top he aims higher. He's the Omega to Ash's perpetual Alpha.
I think Ash can get there someday, but not as long as the anime is what it is.

yeah. he couldve been better. he was so close to winning in Gen 4, but blew it after losing to a trainer that uses legendaries. I call hacks on that. But oh well, maybe he might have some hope of NOT screwing up again, but I wouldn't hold too much of my breath on that. 'Cause after Gen 3, i lost all faith in him. and gen 4, it was starting to come back as he's FINALLY getting better, that is until he lost in the sinnoh league and it just crushed my hopes to pieces.
so yeah...i guess i can see where ur going at here

Aye. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed. Unova was arguably his worst loss. Not only did he only make it to the top 8 instead of the top 4, but he lost to a newly evolved Lucario. Unova felt like the biggest step back for Ash.

hmm, that is true. He could've used his old pokemon to help him get by, but he had no way to get to his other pokemon through pc like how he did before. which is why he's been keeping more than 6 pokemon with him the whole time in that season.
plus, thats not the only big step back. remember that fight with trip's snivy in the beginning? i facepalmed at that loss, because pikachu is at a higher level. he shouldnt be losing to a level 5 snivy, with or without his electric attacks. its ridiculous.
plus he tends to forget how to catch a pokemon after going through that many times before in previous episodes.
...yeah, it really begs to question why those writers keep making him so pathetic like that.
Plus some characters even know that Ash will never learn, and totally right about him while bluntly say it to him too. Misty was right, Gary was right, Paul was right (most definitely), Trip was right, even Iris was right about Ash, and she's clearly worse than him.

Benji-Blacksky In reply to StarWarriorRobby [2013-10-23 17:22:58 +0000 UTC]
I agree. I felt like they threw him a bone recently by giving him Charizard and Gliscor back permanently, but I still think there is a long way for him to go.
Yeah. That made no sense at all. Trip got lucky a lot more than he should have. With Paul it was understandable, because he had been training as long as Ash, despite being a douche. However Trip came out the gate knowing what to do or outdoing Ash. What made no sense though was Ash rescanning Mareep and Koffing. It wouldn't make sense for him to not know what they were.
Honestly its the writers keeping him down. Ash only seems to draw on old experiences during tournaments, but even then he gets cut short. It's a shame because up to the Hoenn series' end he showed real signs of improvement, then Sinnoh and Unova blasted him back incredibly hard.

exactly.
and the biggest bull of all, is that they not only tend to make him relatable to the child demographic (which pretty much failed miserably, since we find the main kids in the games and manga more of a relatable inspiration than Ash is), but they also kept Ash forever a 10 year old.
That ABSOLUTELY makes no sense what-so-ever. How can anyone stay 10 years old and never age after 15+ years in 5 gens, plus the 6th one? sure there are these theories going on about it, but here's mine. Ash is born with Peter Pan syndrome. That is all.

and he looks older in gen 6, but they never said anything. making us assume that he's a half older.
~sighs~ well they said that they got new writers for the gen 6 anime. but question is, how will we know theyre not gonna screw this one up too? gets u into a fearful suspicion that its gonna happen again.
Ash becomes stupider and fails again in another league, Pikachu ditches stronger electric type moves for weaker ones, since volt tackle is the best one out there, Ash never evolves much of his pokemon, he friend zones many of his possible love interest after Misty, May and Dawn, Team Rocket won't freakin piss off, and it all sums up to yet another gen where they'll start this stupid routine all over again. Its sad that many fans feel for this, when they don't realize that theyre being played for suckers.
its like how it happened to kids when they don't know anything about anime, but then started watching 4kids dubs. and eventually, they know the truth behind it and felt totally dumbfounded. thats what happened to me when i discovered how 4kids ruined one piece, sonic x, yugioh, shaman king, etc. only thing they did ok was kirby and the pokemon anime...before they lost funding to it anyway. the 4kids pokemon, while have some minor dub errors and such, they had decent music and got us jamming to them. the music in the recent dub of pokemon are all bland, boring, cheesy, and just last for a short time. what the heck happened there?

I reeeeaaaallly hope they don't, but I'm not holding my breath.
Yeah, Pikachu also knew thunder, yet stopped using it. Why the heck did they do that?
I just hope he can call on his whole team again. And that he doesn't get stuck with any of Gen 6's dumb allies. None of those kids seem likable imo.
A lot happened. Makes you wish they could at least get the music back, and make some more positive changes like keeping Ash from not knowing Pokemon he's already met in less than an alleged year.

StarWarriorRobby In reply to Benji-Blacksky [2013-10-23 19:36:41 +0000 UTC]
yeah. Pikachu went from thunder, to volt tackle, then downgrade to electro ball, and from what i see in the gen 6 trailers, its gonna learn nuzzle, which is ALOT weaker than thundershock. why?! why give him such a pathetic electric move. Quick attack was weak enough, but come on. Dont nerf the little guy even further than it already has. Are you trying to make Ash suck again?! Oh wait, they're already planning on it. Get the phone ready til the end of this season, people. Because I freakin called it. =_=
I'm already beginning to find Bonnie incredibly useless and annoying. She's not Max from gen 3, thats for sure. and remember gen 5? Cilan was bland, but Iris is ungratefully annoying, but no worse than the anime Bianca, who i swear its Barry 2.0. I hated Iris in gen 5 as a whole. And i'm still calling bullstink on her being champion in BW2. Drayden could've been a better choice, but no, Iris being champion is all done by demand for the sake of the anime. And good grief she is PATHETIC. on my first time battling her, all it took was my Lucario alone to beat her with dragon pulse and aura sphere. so yeah, i agree with u before, gen 5 is pretty much the weakest of all the gens. it has so many problems and the villains of team plasma are nothing more than freakin idiots trying to copy PETA with that crap.

Aye, it's a damn shame.
Bianca is really Barry 2.0, just gender swapped. They're even colored the same in general. Iris as champion was a bit jarring. How did she of all people beat Alder?
But yeah, Ash's companions seem like copy pastes of Hoenn at this point. A Gym Leader, little kid, and protagonist of the current Gen. I hope at least Ash does something constructive or his rival isn't an outright douche.
Reminds me. Team Flare...Sucks.

Adler lost his champion title to N in BW1 before I beat him in the end. Thats how Iris stole that role as champion.
Yeah, when I saw Team Flare, my reaction was this.
"CIRCUS MUGS?! HOW CAN YOU BE CIRCUS MUGS?!"
But then later when I got to the end close end of Y, I was like, "Team Rocket, eat your hearts out." They really show themselves to be scary and psychotic in this. Destroy the world but everyone in Team Flare. That's their idea of making the beautiful? Dang man. This is beyond being a 2-dimensional eco-terrorist group like Galactic and Plasma were. Although, they don't get too much development like how Rocket and Magma/Aqua did. We don't know too much about about Flare's reasons for doing this or what stoop them to that level. All we can do is come up with a connection through AZ's depression and dark back story and assume thats Team Flare's trigger to this goal. So theyre not too bad as they look, though they do look alot like their dressed for the circus, the only thing is, they need more of a development than this.
