Now here's the German Kaiser... Yeah I'm destroying some people's mud/quicksand fetishes with reality...

Ok the point is, the Battle of Passchendaele aka the 3rd Battle of Ypres was one of the most depressing battles of the Great War. The reason the terrain was so muddy was because it had been raining for a very long time... So staying in the trenches was no longer an option... Infantryman couldn't charge through the land all because of the muddy terrain... All the fight was instead small groups as one massive assault would be impossible...

Artillery guns sank lower, Tanks, Horses and Soldiers all got stuck in the mud. And trying to rescue the wounded was impossible especially at night... Although there have been duckboards and pathways made, nonetheless... A large scale battle was hard, yet the Allies were able to push through, and by November 10, 1917... Passchendaele Ridge was now theirs.

But to this day, Passchendaele remains as the most depressing battle of the Great War... And one of the most iconic battles of that war...
