Description
Here's my latest entry for AlphaBands! This week I've chosen another local hero of mine. From Montgomery County, Maryland comes the doom metal trailblazer, Scott Weinrich. Known by his legions of fans as Wino, he first became noticed in 1976 with his first band, Warhorse. They later changed their name and became a household name among DC area metal heads, The Obsessed.
Wino loves Black Sabbath and Grand Funk Railroad, but is also into pre-Columbian Mexican tribal music, Ravi Shankar, and John Coltrane. His varied musical influences have allowed him to be known for having "...helped develop and codify doom metal's slow-motion gnash of ponderous tempos, bleary riffs, and vocals growling the language of end times," as stated by Michael Byrne of the Baltimore City Paper.
I went simple this week with the design but used several different media including ink, acrylic paint, and white gel pen. Pictured inside the "O" with the moon is, from the top, Guy Pinhas (bass guitar), Wino (vocals and guitar), and Greg Rogers (drums).
There's a really cool documentary about The Obsessed right here: youtu.be/bJwl_5vFQi0
