Description This is why I haven't uploaded much over the past five months. I've been working on some things. This is some things.

Started working on this on 3 August 2007, at 5:59 pm
Finished it on 23 January 2008, at 8:40 pm.

All done with Microns 005 to 05. 98% of it was done on the Metro on my commute four days a week.

Do the trains actually move where you live because if this was in England it wouldn't be possible to do this without making loads of mistakes? Great work though. I salute you!

They move. It's easiest to sit in a sideways-facing seat and hold the sketchbook away from my body, resting my hand on the pad as a stipple. Β That way, the paper moves more in time with my drawing hand than with the rest of my body. Β Also, because it's so much dots the chances of making errors is reduced. Β If I were trying to draw lines it would be more difficult.

Thanks!

You have adapted your drawing technique very well to train travel. We don't have sideways-facing seats on trains where I live but I think I understand how you do it and how mistakes while stippling are irrelevant anyway. Thanks for the explanationΒ

The detail and contrast is awesome in this. I love stippling and finding other people who use that method. The macabre elements work really well; it's not too much

Out of curiosity, did you get comments on this from other commuters? I always felt weird drawing in public because I'm kind of shy and generally people are curious about what one is drawing XD.

I usually have my music going in my ear buds when I work on the train, and keep my head down. Β It discourages strangers from talking to me. Β I am pretty shy in public as well.

what would you sell this for? or a copy of it, even?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SamWolk In reply to anextraordinarygirl [2008-01-26 00:28:58 +0000 UTC]

I'm not really sure. A copy wouldn't really look that good. Hell, the difference between the original and this scan of it you're seeing is pretty surprising.

But I'm flattered you asked!
