Love it! And I can see what you mean by wanting to make her look empty; her face almost looks blank, to me, like she is realizing or feeling she has nothing left to lose-it's already gone.

May I ask what platform you drew this on? (Canvas, paper, etc...)

copic paper, though I didn't like the experience because it is very weak and it bends all the time.

This picture is just so hugely inspirational to me. I remember when you first put it up here, I fell in love with it right away. There's just something about it... something that's hard to describe. I don't know, when a picture has a lot of emotion poured into it, you can just sort of tell. Even without the comments about how you wanted to make her look like she's lost everything she'd ever loved, it shows. Your comments just confirm it. It reminds me a little of drawings you'd find in the notebook of a high school girl, because of the stickers and randomness, but that's not a bad thing: I think it creates a certain look of hectic-ness, and the notebook look connects to the age of the girl in the picture, and helps craft her... her character, I'll say. Her personality, who she is, how it feels for her to be drowning. I also love the bits of writing you put in: those help tell her story too. I love reading them, letting my mind fill in the words that are covered up... I guess I can connect with it, the overall tone and story.... the idea of drowning.
Yeah... that's the long-winded explanation of why this is on my supershort list of 'absolute favorite drawings on DA' (there are seriously only, like, three drawings on that list, and I've been here a while :])

You want an interpretation? Okay...
You are writing it yourself: "I wanted to make her look like she was feeling empty. Drowning more and more everyday. Like she had lost everything that she ever loved." - how old is she? 16? 20? 25? Certainly not older. Drowning more and more everyday - which means no hope. Having lost everything she ever loved - no more reason to live? So pretty, so young, so unexperienced - having no clue, that the world has MORE to offer! And already throwing it all away. Makes me wanna cry. I can feel her pain - I am feeling with her. I pitty her, but I cannot help her. This picture leaves me helpless. She doesnΒ΄t even know I exist and even if she would know, she wouldnΒ΄t let me help her. Makes me angry. Angry about my incapability to reach her. On the right hand side - the cut off words: "I hate". What a strong feeling! Hatred! A young woman like her, hating? Scares me. Noone should hate, if the hatred is directed to another person. No matter which age. Dislike - yes. But not hatred. Too strong - by hating others you destroy yourself.
Sadness, anger, pain, fear... as I say, disturbing and frightening...
I could go on, but that should do for now

You are very right! thanks for telling me what you see here. You have a keen eye : )
I agree, there's always a reason to keep going. This world is wonderful. So intricate, so complex, so beautiful and full of wonders. But it is natural for a human being to feel sad and hopeless sometimes. It's part of our nature, we can't always feel happy. We need to feel sad in order to be able to appreciate those small moments that make us happy.
This drawing represents a huge "drowning" that I experienced. I had never felt so sad, and there was a good reason. However, nobody noticed, I kept my bad feelings to myself, as I always do, because I don't like to make others feel bad for me. I like to overcome my problems by myself, without hurting the people I love. I don't hate anybody...I wrote that because when you are feeling dead, you say words like that but you don't really mean or know what you are saying.
The entire drawing is an exaggeration,a metaphor, a contradiction. It's full of symbols, and I am glad to see that you took the time to understand some of them, most people just stare at the cute face and ignore what really matters about a drawing, which is, the emotion and the meaning behind it.
sorry for my lame English, and thank you again!

Nono: I have to thank you, that you share something THAT personal! You could have said, that the picture was about someone else. When I wrote the interpretation, I was not sure, if it was you, you were writing about - and of course I donΒ΄t know, if it is you in the portrait. But it doesnΒ΄t matter, because it wonΒ΄t change my impression.
You are absolutely right about appreciation of the small moments of happiness. One of the most important lessons we all have to learn when growing older is, that there are only SMALL moments of happiness and that most of the time we will be surrounded by pain, greef, anger, unfairness and fear. ThatΒ΄s life. A lot of people cannot handle that thought and they retreat into their own little worlds, shutting out everyone and everything else. Or they commit suicide. Or they go insane.
You are well aware of all this and although you feel the pressure, you are able to solve your problems by yourself, which makes you a very strong person - even if you might not see it yourself. You are right: we need the downs to notice the ups and the bigger the difference between the two, the stronger we will feel both of them. Does that make sense? The higher you are, the deeper you fall - can I say that?
Please, donΒ΄t appologise for your english - itΒ΄s only my second language, too. If you ever need someone to share thoughts with, donΒ΄t hesitate to send me a note
And of course the usual: "keep up the good work!"

I love this piece of work, how can you call it crap? It's likes the feeling of curling up with the internet. The way that the girl's face is drawn in such a realistic tone helps to match it with life. The black and white is the computer monitor and the splashes of color and block text from the internet. I especially love the repeat lines of 'Don't leave me' as many use the internet as a way to connect to others.
I would love to see how the original artwork looks, it is something I would be interested in buying.
