A quick sketchy drawing I just felt like doing.Wanted to test the Smooth Bristol I bought in the summer. I really don't like it.
Used:
- mechanical and monolith graphite pencils
- A3 paper
- paper stumps
- erasers (regular, pencil)
- paper tissues
- time: 3-4 days, perhaps about 15 hours total
- reference photo

keeping in mind that i fully admit that even if i spent my entire life trying to do this with infinite resources i never could, i think the lips and little funny angling leave something to be desired but other than the that it's gorgeous

I've never tried Bristol. But I heard so many people use it.. wierd. I like my aper and it's cheap so I'll stick to that Nice work though. The eyes are rather cool

Yeah, I'm sticking to my old trusty paper, too.
Thanks.

300 PΓ€ris kole.

smooth bristol is pretty cool depending on subject matter... its great for female skin and cast drawings and stuff like that, since it has like no texture.. but you gotta work in layers, and its a real patience killer.
cool sketch, feels good to loosen up sometimes, riiight

I always work in thousands of layers, that's why I'm so surprised it didn't work on the Bristol!
Yep. Just wish I didn't need to struggle so much with the damn paper.

I think you did a great job Sandra. Smooth Bristol board can be hard to use. I was like that at first when I understand it's about the layering effect. I suggest just using a softer pencil and shade it on there. Do you use blending stumps when you shade? That usually work too and also I recommend graphite powder. It definitely gets it a nice shining tone too . Other than that, it looks great to me Sandra.

Thanks. Yes, I always put about a million layers on my drawings and i also always smudge here and there with stumps. But it was rather impossible to do with this smooth Bristol for me.
I should try graphite powder, though. I wonder if they sell it anywhere around here.

Well, yeah. It says 'Extra smooth surface'. It's obviously the right thing.
